OBJECTIVES: Testicular blood supply and semen quality were compared in two groups of patients undergoing laparoscopic varicocelectomy: group I (n = 27) with spermatic artery ligation and group II (n = 48) with spermatic artery preservation.

Many of the recent applications of laparoscopy to urologic surgery have demonstrated the feasibility of these techniques to complete the intended diagnostic or therapeutic objectives and provide the patient with a more comfortable and shorter recuperative period. Ongoing laboratory and clinical research continues to expand the field of laparoscopic urologic surgery in terms of therapeutic and reconstructive techniques. The second part of this review will explore the more innovative applications of laparoscopic urology and the impact this may have on the practice and art of urology.

One hundred fifty six telethermographic exams, carried our for scrotal pathology (testicular and extratesticular), have been analyzed. In 80% of cases the pathological area has determined a remarkable hyperthermic thermographic pattern. On the contrary, in the remaining 20% of cases, the affected area has resulted iso- or hypothermic. In this work the eventual pathologic substrate, responsible of the different thermographic patterns, is discussed, also taking into account the echographic results.
