[Favorable effects of estrogens and progesterones on general diseases].

Estrogens and progestagens exert positive effects on some general diseases as iron deficiency, anemia, premenstrual syndrome, intermenstrual migraine, akne, seborrhoea, hirsutism, androgenetic alopecia, slerodermia, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis and depressive disorders. The mechanism of action and the mode of treatment in such cases are discussed.

STUDIES ON THE DISPERSAL OF STAPHYLOCOCCI.

The dispersal of staphylococci during undressing in a cubicle has been investigated. The ability to disperse appears to be largely dependent on the degree of contamination of the skin with staphylococci. There are some major differences in the numbers of bacteria and skin scales disseminated by different groups of people, e.g., patients with skin disease disseminated more than did normal persons. Differences in dissemination between males and females appeared to be largely due to differences in clothing.

Oily sensitive skin: A review of management options.

BACKGROUND: Due to the ever-increasing demands for the personalized care, people seek for the tailored management according to the accurate identification of their skin type. The Baumann Skin Type Indicator, which was proposed by Leslie Baumann, is composed of four parameters: oily or dry, resistant or sensitive, pigmented or nonpigmented, and wrinkled or tight. Among these, oily sensitive skin experiences significant discomfort and resists ordinary treatment. AIMS: In this article, we will review the clinical manifestations, underlying pathogenesis and recommendations on treatment options th

Positive atopy patch test reactions to Pityrosporum orbiculare in atopic dermatitis patients.

BACKGROUND: Pityrosporum orbiculare, although a part of our normal cutaneous microflora, can cause skin infections and induce specific immunoglobulin (Ig) E antibodies in atopic dermatitis patients. P. orbiculare is therefore considered to be one of the trigger factors for atopic dermatitis. OBJECTIVE: To investigate if P. orbiculare can induce an eczematous reaction in atopic dermatitis patients, seborrhoeic dermatitis patients and healthy controls. METHODS: Fifteen atopic dermatitis patients, eight seborrhoeic dermatitis patients and eight healthy controls were patch tested with extract of

[Frequent dermatologic diseases in the newborn and children].

Sebaceous gland activity in the newborn and children is extensive at first in the epidermis, and later decreases owing to defective operation of the sweat glands, circulation changes, growth of the hair, and a predisposition to infection, for which significant treatment is required. In addition to the genetic "typus neurodermiticus", pharmaceutical, alimentary and respiratory allergens and psychological factors may play a part in the appearance of atopical dermatitis. Onset is usually in the 2nd to 6th month and the side of the face and the scalp are affected. The clinical picture varies consi

Narrowband UVB phototherapy in skin conditions beyond psoriasis.

BACKGROUND: Narrowband (NB) UVB phototherapy has been proven to be clearly more effective than broadband UVB and safer and/or more practicable than psoralen-UVA in the management of psoriasis. However, the role of NB UVB seems to be less clear in the management of skin conditions beyond psoriasis. OBJECTIVES: We sought to give an update on clinical experiences in NB UVB of nonpsoriatic skin conditions, and to establish its current position within the spectrum of competing photo(chemo)therapeutic options. METHODS: The computerized bibliographic database PubMed, without time limits, and other

Trichoscopic Features, Clinical Correlates, and Risk Prediction in Female Pattern Hair Loss: A Retrospective Case-Control Study.

BACKGROUND: Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL) is often confused with another condition called Chronic telogen effluvium (CTE). Trichoscopy plays an increasingly prominent role in the diagnosis and prognosis of hair disorders. OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the clinical manifestations and trichoscopic features of FPHL to identify correlations and to develop a nomogram model to predict the risk of FPHL. METHODS: A retrospective case-control study was conducted, including 151 FPHL patients (cases) and 151 CTE patients (controls). Clinical and trichoscopic data were analyzed to identify indepe

Maternal diabetes subtypes and offspring cutaneous health: developmental programming of sebaceous gland function in over 330,000 live births.

OBJECTIVE: Maternal diabetes is a known driver of fetal metabolic programming, yet its impact on offspring cutaneous health remains poorly characterized. We investigated the impact of intrauterine exposure to various maternal diabetes subtypes on the risk of offspring seborrheic dermatitis (SD), and to explore whether this risk is modulated by maternal glycemic control or treatment modality. METHODS: This large-scale, population-based cohort study included 331,335 mother-child pairs. Maternal diabetes subtypes-type 1 (T1DM), type 2 (T2DM), and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM)-were assessed

Tinea capitis in Older Adults: A Neglected and Misdiagnosed Scalp Infection-A Systematic Review of Reported Cases.

Background/Objectives: Tinea capitis is traditionally a childhood infection, yet recent reports describe its emergence among older adults. In this population, hormonal changes, comorbidities, and frequent corticosteroid use may modify clinical presentation and delay diagnosis. This systematic review aimed to consolidate current evidence on Tinea capitis in individuals aged 65 years or older, focusing on epidemiologic, clinical, and mycological characteristics as well as therapeutic outcomes. Methods: Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a comprehensive search was conducted in the PubMed, Scopus,
