Meckel's diverticulum is a pathology not rarely found everyday clinical medicine especially when it present with one of its complications. The specific diagnosis is a bit difficult to put because of the low sensibility and specificity of symptoms of diagnostic and instrumental techniques used. The reported case shows a rare type of complication constituted by the phlogosis of Meckel's diverticulum, itself due to an extraneous thing ingested by the patient. The authors discuss the entity of the manifestations of this pathology and highlight every aspects.

Spontaneous ureterocolic fistula is rare and usually caused by urinary calculi. We present the fifth reported case of spontaneous ureterocolic fistula caused by diverticular disease of the colon. Review of these cases revealed a preponderance of women (3:1 ratio), with mean age of 77 years. These patients may have a protracted course before an accurate diagnosis is made (up to 10 years) because of the typical vague presentation. A review of the symptoms and signs as well as preoperative investigations was made in 12 patients with proved colovesical fistulas. The symptoms were predominantly those of the lower urinary tract. The value of barium enema, cystogram, cystoscopy and sigmoidoscopy was pointed out. Treatment consisted of a combined treatment with colostomy and indwelling bladder catheter, primary closure of the fistula only and various staged procedures with bowel resection. We emphasize the value of the one-stage procedure in the uncomplicated case.

Experience with 37 patients with adult colovesical fistula over the past 19 years is reviewed. Specific guidelines for treatment of adult colovesical fistula are influenced by the location and cause of the fistula, the patient's general condition, the presence of a pelvic abscess and the presence of colonic obstruction. When criteria are met, a one-stage procedure is safe. Jaundice of severe bacterial infection is well known. Marked elevation of the alkaline phosphatase has not previously been emphasized as a manifestation of severe bacterial infection. This paper reports a controlled trial of human and computer-aided diagnosis in a series of 552 patients with acute abdominal pain. The overall diagnostic accuracy of the computer-aided system was 91.5% and that of the senior clinician to see each case was 81.2%.
