BACKGROUND: Abdominal Vacuum-Assisted Closure (V.A.C.) systems for treatment of open abdomens have been predominantly used for trauma patients with a high primary fascial closure rate. Use of the V.A.C. technique in abdominal sepsis is less well established.

OBJECTIVE: Webbed neck deformity exists in many syndromes including Turner's or Klippel-Feil syndrome. Multiple problems are encountered with existing techniques to correct a webbed neck deformity. Facial paralysis in the midface causes loss of cheek tonus, asymmetry at rest, and inability to smile. Static suspension is generally performed in patients who cannot tolerate time-consuming dynamic reanimation. Current methods for static slings are overly simplistic. A sling, which is generally fascia lata or palmaris tendon, is placed between the modiolus and the zygomatic arch or the temporalis fascia, with further extension to the midline of the upper end lower lips in 1 vector. Recently, sutures are placed in a multivectorial approach, but suture failure via breakage is the main problem.

Dupuytren's disease has a high rate of recurrence after treatment. In this study we have assessed the usefulness of histological staging in the prediction of recurrence. We have also verified whether there is a correlation between histological staging and features of Dupuytren's diathesis. We studied 139 hands in 124 Caucasian patients treated between 1997 and 2004.
