In our previous study, we classified nasal bone fractures into 6 types based on computed tomography and the patterns of the nasal bone fractures (NBF) in 503 patients treated between 1998 and 2004. In the present study, we analyzed 3785 patients treated between 2005 and 2021. The age, sex, etiology, associated injuries, pattern of fractures, and treatments were reviewed, and radiographic studies were analyzed. The highest incidence was in the age group of 10 to 19 years (N=870, 23.0%), followed by 20 to 29 years (N=792, 20.9%) and 30 to 39 years (N=635, 16.8%). The most common causes of injury

BACKGROUND: Fractures of the orbital roof require high-energy trauma and have been linked to high rates of neurologic and ocular complications. However, there is a paucity of literature exploring the association between injury, management, and visual prognosis.
METHODS: The authors performed a 3-year retrospective review of orbital roof fracture admissions to a Level I trauma center. Fracture displacement, comminution, and frontobasal type were ascertained from computed tomographic images. Pretreatment characteristics of operative orbital roof fractures were compared to those of nonoperative

Skeletal trauma accounts for 10% to 15% of all childhood injuries, with approximately 15% to 30% of these representing physeal injuries. Talus fractures are rare injuries in children with an estimated prevalence of 0.008% of all childhood fractures. Cast immobilization is sufficient treatment for non-displaced fractures, however displaced fractures of the talus require surgical intervention to minimize the risk of trauma-related avascular necrosis (AVN) due to disruption of the vascular supply originating from the talar neck. A 13-year-old boy was brought to the accident and emergency (A/E) de

Vertical femoral neck fractures (Pauwels type III classification) in young adults generally occur as a consequence of high-energy trauma and are frequently seen in association with multiple injuries. Considering the controversies regarding the optimal fixation for this fracture, our aim was to evaluate the clinical outcome of a closed fixation strategy for vertical femoral neck fractures in young adults using two parallel and one transverse cancellous lag screws. This was a single-surgeon, prospective study including 20 young adults with average age of 38.75 years (range 18-59 years) with a hi

UNLABELLED: We retrospectively reviewed nine patients who had condylar TKA and subsequently had a patellectomy between 1969 and 2003. One patient was lost to followup, but the remaining eight patients were followed up for an average of 49 months after patellectomy. All patellectomies were done after comminuted patellar fractures at an average of 21 months (range, 4-88 months) after the initial arthroplasty. Knee scores after the initial arthroplasty were 83 points (range, 69-97 points) and 49 points (range, 10-100 points) for pain and function, respectively. Knee scores after patellectomy were

Treatment of adult tibiofibular fractures, especially severely comminuted fractures, is technically challenging due to the lack of reduction markers and difficulty in restoring the alignment. Fixation of the fibula can facilitate reduction of the tibia fracture and restoration of the lower-extremity alignment. However, there are few literatures mentioned using intramedullary nail fixation for fibular fractures. Twenty-three cases of tibiofibular fractures were treated with elastic nails fixation fibular fractures and intramedullary nail or plate stabilization tibial fractures between January 2

Nasal bone fractures are the most common among facial fractures and are the third most common fractures in the human frame. Although many forms of treatment have been introduced, controversy regarding the optimal treatment still remains. Nasal bone fractures are complex, with significantly varying types that are often undermanaged in closed reduction procedures. The authors' experiences with nasal bone fractures have shown that the baseline for surgical intervention depends on the type of fracture and the method of maintenance after reduction, both of which have considerable impact on the fina

BACKGROUND: Distal humeral hemiarthroplasty (DHH) is a treatment option for comminuted joint fractures of the elbow, particularly when osteosynthesis is not possible or has failed. This meta-analysis aims to compare the clinical and functional outcomes of DHH performed for distal humerus fractures acutely versus as salvage after failure of osteosynthesis (open reduction and internal fixation [ORIF]).
METHODS: A systematic review was conducted according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Studies reporting cases of DHH for complex distal humerus fr

INTRODUCTION: Distal radius fractures can delay return to sport, particularly when early weight-bearing is restricted. Although volar locking plate (VLP) fixation is widely used, it may provide insufficient stability in fractures involving a small volar lunate facet fragment. Dorsal spanning plate fixation offers rigid stability and may facilitate early functional recovery, but its application in athletes remains underreported.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 28-year-old professional KEIRIN cyclist sustained a comminuted intra-articular distal radius fracture (AO type C2) with a small volar lunate fa

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the early clinical efficacy of a standardized incision approach based on the rotational mapping method. The approach was applied in significantly displaced Zingg Type B and mildly comminuted Zingg Type C zygomaticomaxillary complex (ZMC) fractures requiring direct exposure of the zygomatic arch.
METHODS: A total of 43 patients with selected Zingg Type B/C ZMC fractures requiring open reduction of the zygomatic arch were retrospectively assessed. The "rotational mapping method" was used intraoperatively to plan a preauricular incision for direct zygomati

Metal plates are commonly used for the fixation of metacarpal fractures, but are associated with complications such as tendon adhesions that impair finger mobility. AdhFix, a novel osteosynthesis material, may reduce these complications, but its biomechanical performance in the metacarpal region remains untested. This study aimed to evaluate internal bending moments during postoperative rehabilitation and assess the biomechanical potential of AdhFix in treating comminuted metacarpal shaft fractures using a human cadaveric model. In five cadaveric hands, unstable shaft fractures of the second,

The results of a follow-up evaluation of open intra-articular calcaneal fractures are presented. A modified Merle d'Aubigné functional score and Zwipp radiographic score were used. A retrospective analysis of 35 patients with 36 open intra-articular fractures represents the basis of the study. At the time of follow-up examination (on average 44 months after the injury), 5 amputations of the affected extremity and 4 ankle arthrodeses had been carried out. The 23 patients still able to bear weight on the affected hindfoot and possessing a functional ankle joint were radiographically and function

Management of fractures involving the nasofrontal duct region of the frontal sinus has focused on preserving function when possible or obliterating the sinus and duct when fracture patterns potentiate ductal obstruction and possible transcranial seeding of bacteria. When frontal sinus preservation is in doubt, controversy surrounds the use of cranialization versus obliteration, and the method of obliteration. Perioperative and late postoperative infections are uncommon, but their occurrence jeopardizes an often complex reconstruction and can be life threatening. This paper describes the design

Penetrating limb injuries are common during conflict, and in many there will be an associated fracture. Treatment of ballistic femoral fractures would usually be with by intramedullary nail; however, within the resource-constrained environment during conflict this is rarely possible. This report illustrates what can be achieved at a Role 2 facility to provide skeletal traction with the equipment and skills available. We discuss the history of skeletal traction and its use in ballistic femoral fractures, and believe that skeletal traction is still a valuable technique that we shouldn't ignore.

Pilon fractures are complex injuries involving the weight-bearing articular surface of the distal tibia and are frequently associated with relevant soft tissue damage. The treatment requires a structured strategy in which the condition of the soft tissues plays a central role. These fractures result either from low-energy rotational injuries or high-energy axial compression trauma. While the former typically occur in older patients and are associated with limited soft tissue injury, the latter often lead to complex fracture patterns with severe articular impaction and metaphyseal comminution.

Charcot neuroarthropathy (CNA) is a debilitating complication of diabetes mellitus that often poses diagnostic challenges, particularly when associated with fractures around the knee joint. This case series describes two contrasting cases of CNA manifesting as tibial plateau fractures in patients with type 2 diabetes. In the first case, a 55-year-old woman with poorly controlled diabetes sustained a tibial plateau fracture following a minor sprain. The fracture was misdiagnosed as an old comminuted tibial plateau fracture, and the patient underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) w

Background and Purposes The objectives of this study were to investigate the inter- and intraobserver agreement in the classification of distal radius fractures (DRFs) according to the AO and the Buttazzoni classification system, for the two different radiology modalities: conventional radiography (CR) and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Furthermore, we aimed to explore whether the radiological modality used influences the choice of treatment. Materials and Methods Fifty consecutive patients with DRFs were included. The fractures were visualized by both CR and CBCT. All images were ind
