Geographical variation and trends in outcomes of laparoscopic spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy with or without splenic vessel preservation: A meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Distal pancreatectomy (DP) is performed to treat tumors of the pancreatic body and tail. Traditionally, splenectomy is performed with a DP, however, laparoscopic spleen-preserving DP (SPDP) using Warshaw's (splenic vessels ligation) or Kimura's (splenic vessels preservation) techniques have been reported. The clinical benefits of using either technique remain unclear. In this study, we conducted a meta-analysis to compare the clinical outcomes of patients undergoing Warshaw's and Kimura SPDP. This is the first study to evaluate the geographical variation in outcomes of Warshaw's an

Pharmacological management to prevent ileus in major abdominal surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Prolonged ileus is a common complication following gastrointestinal surgery, with an incidence of up to 40 %. Investigations examining pharmacological treatment of ileus have proved largely disappointing; however, recently, several compounds have been shown to have benefited when used as prophylaxis to prevent ileus. OBJECTIVE: This review aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of compounds which have been recently developed or repurposed to reduce bowel recovery time, thereby preventing ileus. DATA SOURCES: Data were taken from a systematic review of the MEDLINE, EMBASE and C

Association between XPD Lys751Gln and Asp312Asn polymorphisms and hepatocellular carcinoma risk: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Genetic polymorphisms of xeroderma pigmentosum group D (XPD) in the nucleotide excision repair pathway may influence cancer susceptibility by affecting the capacity for DNA repair. Studies investigating the association between XPD Lys751Gln and Asp312Asn polymorphisms and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) risk reported inconsistent results. The aim of this study was to quantitatively summarize the evidence for such an association. Eligible studies were identified by searching electronic databases including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane library, and CBM, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, for the

Wound drains after incisional hernia repair.

BACKGROUND: Incisional hernias are caused by the failure of the wall of the abdomen to close after abdominal surgery, leaving a hole through which the viscera protrude. Incisional hernias are repaired by further surgery. Surgical drains are frequently inserted during hernia repair with the aim of facilitating fluid drainage and preventing complications. Traditional teaching has recommended the use of drains after incisional hernia repair other than for laparoscopic ventral hernia repair. More than 50% of open mesh repairs of ventral hernias have drains inserted. However, there is uncertainty a

The prevalence of nutritional disorders in inflammatory bowel disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

The epidemiology of nutritional disorders in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) remains poorly characterized. Existing evidence is fragmented across specific conditions or confined to single regions, and no study has simultaneously assessed the principal nutritional disorders-malnutrition, overweight or obesity, and sarcopenia-in a unified framework. To address this gap, we systematically searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and China Biology Medicine from inception to July 31, 2024 and updated on July 30, 2026. Observational studies reporting prevalence based on standard diagnostic criter

Comparative perioperative outcomes of Hugo™ RAS versus laparoscopic and Da Vinci platforms for partial nephrectomy: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a common urologic malignancy, and for localized T1 tumors, nephron-sparing surgery is now the standard of care. Laparoscopic and image-guided techniques have advanced as robotic platform procedures offer greater operator dexterity and procedural control. The da Vinci platform has dominated robot-assisted partial nephrectomy, but high costs and closed architecture limit broader use. The Hugo™ RAS system, featuring a modular design, has emerged as a promising alternative, with early studies showing feasibility and safety. However, current evidence remains preliminar

A Systematic Mapping Review of 525 Randomised Controlled Trials on Pharmacological and Non-pharmacological Interventions for People Living With Dementia and Their Formal and Informal Carers in Chinese Communities.

OBJECTIVES: Aligned with the World Health Organization's call for enhanced dementia research to inform national strategies, this systematic mapping review identifies critical gaps in the evidence base for Chinese populations. Representing over 20% of people living with dementia globally, this group remains underrepresented in the Western-centric research that currently guides best practices. This is the first study that comprehensively reviews evidence on dementia-related interventions trialled among participants identified as Chinese worldwide across both Chinese and English literature. Continuous use of anticoagulants in inguinal hernia repair - a systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: The perioperative management of anticoagulation in patients undergoing inguinal hernia repair remains a critical yet debated issue, requiring careful balance between thromboembolic risk and bleeding. Despite the prevalence of patients on chronic anticoagulation-and variability in clinical guidelines-evidence-based strategies are needed to guide perioperative decision-making, ensuring both patient safety and surgical efficacy. Furthermore, more evidence is needed comparing outcomes in patients on and off anticoagulation, particularly regarding postoperative outcomes. This study ai
