BACKGROUND: A sphenoethmoidal cell is a posterior ethmoid cell that pneumatises superiorly and/or laterally to the sphenoid sinus. Disease within such a cell may cause visual symptoms because of the close relationship of the optic nerve.
CASE REPORTS: This paper reports four cases of chronic rhinosinusitis involving a sphenoethmoidal cell, two with visual loss. The management of such cases is discussed and the current literature is reviewed.

Focal lymphoid tissue is ubiquitously present in the oral mucosa and serves as a barrier for entrapment of antigens. The mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue is generally dispersed and sometimes associated with the ducts of the minor salivary glands. Proliferation of the duct-associated lymphoid tissue (DALT) is rarely reported, though probably of common occurrence. We report a case of benign hyperplasia of DALT in the buccal mucosa of a 58-year-old male. The histogenesis and pathological implications of this tissue are discussed and the need for recognition of this entity is stressed.

Maxillary sinus mucocoeles are rare, but may cause significant problems outside the sinus including diplopia and cheek swelling. We present 9 patients suffering from maxillary sinus mucocoele, including one patient with bilateral involvement, representing 10 involved sinuses. Plain films from the routine paranasal sinus examination are used to identify the area occupied by the ethmoid sinuses. Thin-section tomography in coronal and lateral projections illustrates the detailed ethmoid anatomy. These studies are used to illustrate the most common abnormalities of the ethmoid sinuses and demonstrate the basic radiologic signs of disease.
