This study investigated the positional relation of the commissure line of the mouth to the maxillary first molars. Thirty-five volunteers, 20 to 40 years old, with normal natural dentitions were recruited. Maxillary casts with marks locating the commissure were digitally scanned to measure the vertical distance from the tip to the base of the mesiofacial cusp (CO) and from the tip to the mark (CM). There was no significant difference (t test; P > .05) between the CO (1.61 ± 0.41 mm) and CM (1.14 ± 0.68 mm). The mean distance of the commissure mark from the occlusal plane was 0.78 mm.

A multidisciplinary treatment of a case of subgingival fracture in a maxillary anterior tooth is presented. This case report describes a simple method involving an interocclusal appliance and an elastic band for rapid orthodontic extrusion to reestablish biologic width. In addition, a simple technique for surgical recontouring following the coronal displacement of the gingival margin prior to restoration of fractured tooth is explained.

Forty-eight single dental implants were inserted 4 months after tooth extraction following ridge preservation (RP; n = 24) or spontaneous healing (EXT; n = 24). During surgery, 1 (7%) of 24 implants in the RP group and 14 (58%) of 24 in the EXT group required additional bone grafting, and the implant stability quotient value was similar in the two groups. The purpose of this study was to present a protocol for the replacement of single teeth lost in the molar area with immediate implantation in fresh extraction sockets, no flap reflections or grafting procedures, and immediate loading. Twenty-three implants were placed in 20 patients between 2000 and 2006. No implants were lost and no signs of significant bone resorption, loss of osseointegration, or soft tissue complications were reported. The results of this study indicate that this protocol may be a feasible alternative for the replacement of condemned molars.
