PURPOSE: To examine whether the scleral cross sectional area and estimated scleral volume are associated with a longer axial length in human eyes.
METHODS: Histologic anterior-posterior sections running through the pupil and the optic nerve head were examined. Using a light microscope, we measured the thickness of the sclera at the limbus, ora serrata, equator, midpoint between equator and posterior pole (MPEPP), peripapillary region and posterior pole. Additionally we determined the length and the cross section area of the sclera.

Six members of a family presented with a syndrome of mild facial dysmorphism, subluxation of the crystalline lenses, variable degrees of angle closure by iridocorneal adhesions, and patchy areas of iris atrophy. Three nonoperated eyes of two patients had spontaneous filtering blebs that presented as avascular cystic elevations of the superior conjunctiva. Systemic workup of all patients was negative for evidence of diseases known to be associated with dislocated lenses. The pedigree is most compatible with autosomal recessive inheritance with pseudodominance.

PURPOSE: Late bleb leaks may follow months to years after filtering surgery especially with the use of antimetabolites. Complications related to beb leaks may lead to a decrease in visual acuity through complicated hypotony or ocular infection. Nanophthalmos-4 is a rare autosomal dominant disorder caused by two known variations in TMEM98. An Austrian Caucasian pedigree was identified suffering from nanophthalmos and late onset angle-closure glaucoma and premature loss of visual acuity. OBJECTIVE: To report a case of an aqueous misdirection-like presentation in a pseudophakic patient.
DESIGN: Retrospective case review.
PARTICIPANT: An 84-year-old pseudophakic gentleman presented with bilateral blurred vision 8 years after cataract surgery. A refractive shift with shallow anterior chambers and elevated intraocular pressures were noted. No corneal edema was noted. Although aqueous suppression and topical atropine would relieve the signs and symptoms, the effect was temporary with fluctuating and variable changes in refraction, anterior chamber depth, and intraocular pressure.

An early and correct diagnosis substantially improves the post-operative prognosis of acute angle closure glaucoma (AACG). Nanophthalmos and posterior microphthalmos are ocular abnormalities in which both eyes are abnormally small, and typically associated with extreme hyperopia. We recruited 40 individuals from 13 kindreds with nanophthalmos or posterior microphthalmos, with 12 probands subjected to exome sequencing. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective study of patients with acute primary angle closure treated between 2001-2003 and 2008-2010.
