Multidisciplinary perspectives on personalised prevention in youth mental health.

The pervasive impact of mental illnesses extends beyond individual suffering, affecting families, communities, and societies at large. Prevention efforts are imperative to mitigate this burden, promoting well-being and resilience across diverse populations. A particularly vulnerable period is adolescence, which is associated with numerous mental health issues that are exacerbated by declining healthy behaviours as well as socioeconomic inequalities. But adolescence also presents an opportune moment for early intervention. However, recognising warning signs and providing timely support involves

Genetic Testing for Monogenic Forms of Male Infertility Contributes to the Clinical Diagnosis of Men with Severe Idiopathic Male Infertility.

PURPOSE: In recent years, many genes have been associated with male infertility; however, testing of monogenic forms has not yet been clinically implemented in the diagnosis of severe forms of idiopathic male infertility, as the diagnostic utility has not been established yet. The aim of this study was therefore to answer if the implementation of genetic testing for monogenic forms of male infertility could contribute to the clinical diagnosis of men with severe forms of idiopathic male infertility. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Based on the ClinGene curation protocol, we defined a panel of genes wi

Three-Dimensional Preoperative Planning of Corrective Osteotomies for Distal Radius Malunions: A Systematic Review of Clinical and Radiographic Outcomes.

Distal radius malunions (DRMs) are painful and functionally impairing, often necessitating surgical intervention to restore wrist anatomy and function. Traditional corrective osteotomies, which rely on orthogonal radiographs, may overlook complex deformities. This study aims to evaluate the techniques and effectiveness of 3-dimensional (3D)-planned corrective osteotomies, along with their clinical and radiographic outcomes. We conducted a systematic review of literature across PubMed, Ovid, EMBASE, and Web of Science for studies that implemented 3D planning in corrective osteotomies for DRM. W

Impact of the new government-involved noninvasive prenatal testing certification system on the awareness of pregnant women about noninvasive prenatal testing in Japan.

AIM: In Japan, noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) has been performed by facilities accredited by the Japanese Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2013. However, since 2016, with the implementation of NIPT, which can only be performed by blood sampling, non-obstetricians have been involved in prenatal testing. Therefore, in July 2022, a new government-involved NIPT certification system based on Health Sciences Council guidelines was introduced to ensure access to prenatal testing information for pregnant women. METHODS: This survey was conducted in February 2023 and was the first surve

Algorithm for the support of non-related (serious) adverse events in an Ebola vaccine trial in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Implementing an Ebola vaccine trial in a remote area in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and being confronted with a dysfunctional health care system and acute unmet health needs of participants, ethical considerations were made regarding the ancillary care obligations of the sponsor and researchers. Spurred by the occurrence of non-related (serious) adverse events (NR-SAEs), the Universities of Antwerp and Kinshasa jointly developed an algorithm, accompanied by an algorithm policy. The algorithm consists of a set of consecutive questions with binary response options, leading to str

BACKGROUND: Integrated community case management (iCCM) is a community-based child health strategy designed to reduce deaths due to pneumonia, malaria, and diarrhea in low-income countries. Due to the integrated nature of the intervention and the diversity of its stakeholders and activities, iCCM is complex and comprises many systems elements. However, the extent to which studies examine these different elements is unknown. The purpose of this scoping review is to summarize the key areas of emphasis of the iCCM literature and assess the extent to which this takes into account systems complexit

Evaluation of a decision aid for incidental genomic results, the Genomics ADvISER: protocol for a mixed methods randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Genome sequencing, a novel genetic diagnostic technology that analyses the billions of base pairs of DNA, promises to optimise healthcare through personalised diagnosis and treatment. However, implementation of genome sequencing faces challenges including the lack of consensus on disclosure of incidental results, gene changes unrelated to the disease under investigation, but of potential clinical significance to the patient and their provider. Current recommendations encourage clinicians to return medically actionable incidental results and stress the importance of education and
