Cone-Beam Computed Tomography-Based Three-Dimensional Phenotypes of Skeletal Class II Malocclusion in Yemeni Adults: A Principal Component and Cluster Analysis.

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Skeletal Class II malocclusion is heterogeneous, and conventional two-dimensional cephalometry may not fully capture relevant three-dimensional (3D) craniofacial variation. This study aimed to identify 3D skeletal phenotypes of Class II malocclusion in Yemeni adults using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and multivariate analysis. METHODS: This retrospective observational study included CBCT scans of 120 Yemeni adults with skeletal Class II malocclusion (56 males, 64 females; age range 16-30 years; mean 23.1 ± 3.5 years) retrieved from the archives of the Department

A patient with meningeal melanomatosis treated for periodontal disease with a bone regeneration procedure and dental implants: clinical and behavioral management to support medical compliance.

BACKGROUND: During the last three decades dental implants have become increasingly used in partially edentulous periodontally compromised patients. The type of bacteria in the peri-implant sulcus is influenced by the periodontal bacteria present on the surfaces of the remaining teeth. Peri-implant sulci of partially edentulous individuals harbour more motile rods and spirochetes than those of fully edentulous individuals. If Peri-implantitis arises, it may lead to implant failure. This complication occurs more frequently in patients with poor oral hygiene. This is a site-specific bacterial inf

Bone stability after regenerative peri-implantitis treatment: A 10-year follow-up case study.

BACKGROUND: Peri-implantitis poses a significant challenge to implant longevity, leading to progressive bone loss and potential implant failure. While reconstructive surgery has been proven effective in regenerating peri-implant tissues, the long-term stability of the regenerated tissues and the impact of supportive peri-implant care (SPIC) on bone levels remains underexplored. This case study presents a 10-year follow-up of a patient treated with reconstructive surgery for peri-implantitis and enrolled in a structured maintenance program. METHODS: A 68-year-old male with a failing implant in

Subperiosteal Implant Application in Full-Jaw Reconstruction for Severely Atrophic Ridge: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: In cases of severe jaw atrophy, conventional implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation is often limited by insufficient bone volume and the need for extensive grafting procedures. These challenges can restrict prosthetic design and compromise functional outcomes. Customized subperiosteal implants, designed to fit directly over the existing bone surface, offer an alternative approach that enables full-arch prosthetic reconstruction without bone augmentation. METHODS: A patient with severe maxillary and mandibular atrophy underwent full-arch rehabilitation using a customized subpe

Giant Cell Tumor of the Cervical Axis Treated With Anterior-Posterior Surgery and Denosumab: A Ten-year Follow-up Case Report.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Giant cell tumor of the bone (GCTB) is a benign but locally aggressive neoplasm that rarely involves the cervical spine, accounting for approximately 1-4% of all primary bone tumors. The cervical axis (C2) is an exceptionally rare site, presenting unique surgical challenges due to its complex anatomy and proximity to vital neurovascular structures. Denosumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting RANKL, has emerged as an important adjuvant therapy for unresectable or surgically challenging GCTB. Long-term outcomes of combined surgical resection and denosumab therapy in cervical spine

Ectopic thyroid follicular carcinoma in the right mandible: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Ectopic thyroid carcinoma in the mandible is extraordinarily rare; few histologically proven cases have been reported in the literature. Embryologically, cases of ectopic thyroid occur with a developmental abnormality during the migration of the thyroid gland from the floor of the primitive foregut to its final position in the neck. Ectopic thyroid tissue can be found around the course of the thyroglossal duct or laterally in the neck, and even in the mediastinum or below the diaphragm. Since 90% of ectopic thyroid tissues are located at tongue bases, the mandible ectopic thyroid g

Crouzonodermoskeletal syndrome requires individualized surgical management: Scoping review of a rare complex craniofacial syndrome.

Crouzonodermoskeletal syndrome (CDSS) is a rare condition characterized by premature fusion of the coronal sutures, midface hypoplasia, beaked nasal deformity, mandibular prognathism, and proptosis. A specific mutation in the Fibroblast Growth Factor 3 (FGFR3) gene causes CDSS (Ala391Glu) and thus provides a diagnostic marker for early identification. Beyond the Crouzon syndrome-like craniofacial appearance, the CDSS phenotype includes acanthosis nigricans, choanal stenosis/atresia, hydrocephalus, Chiari malformation, and achondroplasia, although presentations vary substantially throughout the

Transcranial penetrating skull base trauma with metal rod: Endoscopic repair of CSF leak.

BACKGROUND: Penetrating skull base injuries are complex clinical scenarios requiring multidisciplinary management to address both immediate life-threatening conditions and long-term complications.Anterior skull base fractures account for 21% of skull fractures from which 4% were caused by head trauma [1]. Post-traumatic cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks may arise, becoming a major source of morbidity; these can lead to the development of severe intracranial infections [2]. Endoscopic Endonasal Approach is a conservative technique that uses a multilayer coverage including a nasoseptal flap to cre

Jansen metaphyseal chondrodysplasia: analysis of craniofacial manifestations.

Jansen metaphyseal chondrodysplasia (JMC) is an ultra-rare disorder caused by constitutive activation of parathyroid hormone type 1 receptor (PTH1R). We sought to characterize the craniofacial phenotype of patients with the disease. Six patients with genetically confirmed JMC underwent comprehensive craniofacial phenotyping revealing a distinct facial appearance that prompted a cephalometric analysis demonstrating a pattern of mandibular retrognathia. Oral examination was notable for flat and shallow palate, delayed eruption pattern, and impacted maxillary teeth. Subclinical and/or mild hearin
