Aggressive giant cell tumors are rare at the distal ulna. We report the results of two patients who were treated surgically using a distal ulna prosthesis stabilized by ligament reconstruction with the brachioradialis tendon. At the maximum follow-up of 18months, the two patients were satisfied. Joint range of motion and functional scores were improved. X-rays showed no recurrence or subluxation; however gradual impingement of the ulnar notch of radius by the prosthesis was visible. Operative intervention for recalcitrant carpal tunnel syndrome often utilizes local vascularized tissue to provide coverage of the median nerve in an attempt to limit scarring or adherence of the nerve to its surrounding structures. Although the hypothenar fat pad is the most commonly cited source of vascularized tissue, alternative options do exist. We review the technique of utilizing a pedicled tenosynovial flap as the source of local vascularized tissue for coverage of the median nerve in cases of recalcitrant carpal tunnel syndrome.

We have created a new way of reanimating the face, involving transposition of the masseter muscle combined with tensor fascia lata, and using the zygomatic arch as a trochlea to reconstruct the inferior facial paralysis. We report how scapholunate (SL) lesions found during arthroscopy were treated using a new palmar operation based on the use of a tendon loop formed using the palmaris longus tendon, with promising preliminary results. Congenital hypoplasia of the thumb is often seen in association with longitudinal failure of formation of the radius. A clinical study of 20 children, with 26 cases of hypoplasia of the thumb was conducted to evaluate the surgical indications according to the stage of the malformation. The results were evaluated for each patient of the study, with the position of the thumb, its spontaneous movements and its function. In grade II hypoplasia, treatment consisted of reanimation of the hypoplastic thumb by one or more tendinon transfers. In grade IV and V, pollicisation is the treatment of choice.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the functional results after opponensplasty using an abductor pollicis brevis rerouting technique in type II and IIIA hypoplastic thumbs.
METHODS: Eleven hypoplastic thumbs in nine children with type II and IIIA hypoplastic thumbs were treated with abductor pollicis brevis rerouting. The mean follow-up period was 70 months (range, 12-172 months). We assessed preoperative to postoperative changes in the angles of the first and second metacarpal axes and the longitudinal axis of the first metacarpal and proximal thumb phalanx as well as grip and pinch strengths.

The authors report the results of a retrospective review of patients who underwent nasal transposition of the vertical rectus muscles between 1997 and 2004.
