The current literature data and the authors' material on the interstitial lung diseases (ILD) are presented. The authors' material includes the results of morphological (light and electron microscopy) examination of 36 intrabronchial biopsies in ILD patients, 2 open biopsies, 6 autopsy cases and lungs of laboratory animals with various forms of the bronchoalveolar sclerosis and interstitial pneumonia. With use of a simple classification based on anatomical criteria and anatomical function, 27 subtrochanteric fractures of the femur were studied. The series was derived from 156 elderly patients with extracapsular hip fractures, all of whom were operated on by the Ender method. There were no infections. Regarding intra- and postoperative bleeding, early mobilization, length of hospital stay, and final clinical outcome, the results were superior to those obtained with other methods so far presented. Reducing body myopathy is a very rare progressive muscular disease. Apart from a non-specific circumscribed muscle fiber degeneration it displays muscle fiber inclusions which have reducing properties as a typical morphological feature. Spinal retroflexion has been studied in five stillborn human fetuses having craniorhachischisis. The findings show that retroflexion in this variant of anencephaly can be classified into severe, moderate and mild forms. The three grades can be differentiated from one another by the direction of the face, shape of the mentothoracic junction, extension of hairline on back, radiographic abnormalities of the spine, and the diaphragmatic defects. Detailed serologic characterization of 79 isolates of Rickettsia tsutsugamushi from Pakistan was performed by using complement fixation and direct immunofluorescence techniques for comparison with three prototype strains. Seventy-one were of the Karp serotype and one was of a Gilliam serotype. Seven isolates were multiply-reactive: one with Karp and Gilliam, 3 with Karp and Kato, and 3 with Karp, Gilliam and Kato, No strain failed to react with at least 1 of the 3 prototype antisera. On the basis of critical survey of literature data and analysis of morbidity of intestinal infections in 5 towns of Donbass for 20 years and also of studying 5148 case histories an attempt is made of rational explantation of the causes of growth during the last years of the incidence of Sonne dysentery salmonelloses, escherichioses and other diseases caused by conditionally-pathogenic microorganisms. The importance of improvement of nomenclature and of statistical classification of intestinal infections was demonstrated.
