The author's experiences with the Choyce Mark VIII implant have been statistically reviewed. The results reveal no significant increase in complications over standard cataract extraction without implantation. Secondary implantation is compared with primary implantation. The results seem to support the author's position that secondary implantation with the Choyce lens carries a 3-5% incidence of complications which must be weighed against the patient's need for further rehabilitation. The intraocular lens offers an additional parameter to be considered for the visual rehabilitation of children with traumatic or infantile cataracts. The disadvantages of aphakic spectacles or contact lens have committed many of these eyes to the status of visual cripples. PURPOSE: To compare the pseudophakodonesis of in-the-bag intraocular lens (IOL) and a secondary fixated IOL by tracking the Purkinje image IV.

In this case series, we assessed a new technique, the intrascleral pocket procedure of transscleral fixation (TF) of the intraocular lens (IOL) in post-vitrectomized eyes. An original MIOL-23 multifocal elastic intraocular lens (IOL) was used to operate 5 eyes with acquired lens dislocation and traumatic cataract. By making self-sealing tunnel incision, ILO was implanted into the capsular sac and sutured to the iris. MIOL-23 implantation caused an increase in mean visual acuity. The IOL took up a correct position. Elastic IOL implantation with iris suture fixation is an efficient and safe mode of additional ILO support.

One of the most important complication in the cataract surgery is the uveitis of the IOL ("toxic lens syndrome"). There are shown the main factors related to the artificial lens, viscoelastic materials and sutures, which may provoke inflammatory reactions. The symptoms may appear early after the operation or later. Concerning those things there is presented a study achieved in the University Clinic of Ophthalmology of the Central Military Hospital.

Eighteen patients had a surgical inferior peripheral iridotomy performed to prevent pupil block and silicone oil anterior chamber prolapse. The occlusion of an iridotomy was treated by neodymium: YAG laser therapy and this form of treatment was successful only in 4 cases (22%). The reopening of occluded iridotomies is best performed by surgery as opposed to laser treatment.

PURPOSE: Presentation of the results of secondary IOLs implantations in 35 aphakic patients operated on from January 1989 to June 1994 (in the years 1989-1994, first half).
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Of 20 men and 15 women, in 17 patients cataract was removed by phacotomy, in 18-by intracapsular cryoextraction. Secondary anterior IOL implantation was performed 1 month--20 years after cataract surgery.
