PURPOSE: Salvage mastectomy has traditionally been the standard treatment for ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence (IBTR) following breast-conserving therapy (BCT). Repeat lumpectomy followed by brachytherapy-based or hyperfractionated external beam partial breast reirradiation (PBrI) has emerged as an alternative in select patients.
