PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of lag time between diagnosis of retinoblastoma (RB) and treatment in patients from 10 countries.
METHODS: Prospective study of 692 treatment-naïve RB patients from 10 countries followed up for 3 years from recruitment.
RESULTS: The mean lag time from the onset of the first symptom to visit to the RB treatment center was 150 days. The mean follow-up duration was 26 months (median, 32 months; range, <1-51 months). A higher socioeconomic status of the country was associated with a lower risk of enucleation: Lower-middle-income countries vs. low-income countries

PURPOSE: To evaluate the role of pars plana vitrectomy-assisted incisional biopsies in the management of choroidal tumors of unclear origin.

METHODS: Ten consecutive patients with indeterminate choroidal tumors underwent a standardized three-port pars-plana vitrectomy-assisted subretinal biopsy using a bimanual approach with standard intraocular forceps and a diamond knife. Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) of the conjunctiva is an extremely rare tumour, and only three previous cases have been reported. We describe two patients with MFH of the conjunctiva: a 58-year-old white male with epibulbar tumour who had exenteration and is alive after five years' follow-up, and a 3 1/2-year-old African girl with xeroderma pigmentosum and an MFH of her right eye conjunctiva, the first reported case of this association. The characteristics and the methods of diagnosis of MFH are discussed.

PURPOSE: This pilot study examines the rates of exposure and fibrovascular ingrowth of silicone-capped, porous, polyethylene orbital implants in the New Zealand white rabbit animal model.
METHODS: Unwrapped, silicone-capped, porous, polyethylene orbital spheres were implanted in 16 enucleated rabbit orbits. Four implants were removed at 3, 6, 9, and 12-month intervals and submitted for histopathologic analysis.
