BACKGROUND: Hemangiomas and vascular malformations are the most common vascular lesions of infancy. Different lasers can be used for treatment. Nd:YAG laser photocoagulation is particularly effective because of its deep penetration into tissue.

PURPOSE: To describe a 79-year-old Caucasian male with a history of hypotony maculopathy for 7 years after cataract extraction with subsequent recovery of normal intraocular pressure and improvement of visual acuity.
METHODS: Interventional case report. The patient developed an intraocular pressure ranging from 0 to 5 mm Hg after cataract surgery. He developed hypotony maculopathy, and the visual acuity declined to 20/200. On evaluation 7 years later, a superior cyclodialysis cleft was detected and treated with the argon laser.

A 57-year-old woman was admitted to JR Sapporo General Hospital with the complaint of dyspnea and palpitation following photogastroscopy. A chest roentgenogram revealed a simultaneous bilateral spontaneous pneumothorax. Video-assisted thoracoscopy demonstrated multiple holes and nodules at the top of the right diaphragm and a ruptured bulla in the left lower lobe. These abnormalities were successfully repaired in a single stage procedure using video-assisted thoracoscopy. This procedure is beneficial in the treatment of this rare condition.

Indocyanine green (ICG)-enhanced laser therapy was evaluated for the treatment of experimental intraocular melanoma. Immediately after an intravenous injection of ICG, a 790-nm chromophore, 810-nm semiconductor diode laser was used to irradiate Greene hamster melanomas that had been implanted in the iris of rabbits. We have investigated the variations in the aqueous humor flow (F) after argon laser photocoagulation (ALT) in the trabecular meshwork. The research has been done on 60 eyes with primary open angle glaucoma within initial stages. The argon laser trabeculoplasty was made around 360 degrees in anterior trabecular meshwork with 100 burns. The flow (F) has been studied by fluorophotometry using Yablonsky's protocol. To study the evolution of the retinal pigment epithelial lesions in the central serous retinopathy, the authors studied 150 patients with ages between 20 and 49 years at the first examination, during periods varying between 6 months and 14 years. It was found a greater incidence of the disease in the males (83.3%); bilaterality in 23.3%; only one point of leakage in 62.7%; 3 different types of diffusion (inkblot 71.4%; mushroom 23.8%; with serous pigment epithelial detachment 4.9%).
