INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to examine the clinical performance of this method, and determine which temporary cement was the most appropriate.
METHODS: Dental fixtures (Tiolox implants GmbH, Germany) were implanted and crown and bridgework applied in a private practice between 1998 and 2003. Copings made of pure gold or titanium were permanently cemented onto the prepared teeth. The bridges were attached with either conventional temporary cements (Zinc oxide/ calcium hydroxide based) or acrylic/urethane cement (IMProv) both to the copings and to the implant abutments. Complication

The purpose of this study was to examine the esthetic and periodontal differences between two methods of uncovering labially impacted maxillary anterior teeth: the apically positioned flap and closed-eruption techniques. The sample consisted of 30 patients who were recalled a minimum of three months after orthodontic treatment of a unilateral labially impacted maxillary anterior tooth. Eighteen of the patients had undergone an apically positioned flap (APF) procedure, and the remaining twelve had undergone the closed-eruption (CE) technique. In the CE group, clinical examination showed less wi

Forty-five patients with Williams syndrome (WS) were evaluated for oral abnormalities. The mean age of the patients was 9.25 years, the median age was 6.7 years, and the majority (62.2%) were male. Hypodontia was present in 11.1% of the patients. Abnormal tooth morphology was noted in 12.5% of the primary dentitions and 40.7% of the permanent dentitions. With the exception of the primary mandibular central incisors of males, all mesiodistal incisor crown dimensions were statistically significantly smaller when compared with norms (P < 0.05). At least one hypoplastic enamel defect was present i

This report introduces an innovative approach for optimizing esthetics and minimizing soft tissue changes in clinical scenarios that involve extensive site preparation and submerged implants. The existing soft tissue morphology is registered at the time of implant uncovery, and an optimal peri-implant transmucosal contour is created indirectly in the lab. The customized definitive abutment is inserted during stage-two surgery and subsequently guides the peri-implant soft tissue, replicating an optimal emergence profile. The concept is demonstrated through the presentation of two clinical cases

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Gingival recession results from the displacement of the gingival margin apically to the cementoenamel junction. There is unclear evidence regarding the impact of orthodontic treatment on the development of gingival recessions. The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in clinical crown length and the development of gingival recession on the labial aspect of the maxillary and mandibular incisors associated with orthodontic treatment and relate these changes to the observed variations in their sagittal inclination.
MATERIALS/METHODS: Eighty-two consecutive subj

BACKGROUND: Based on measurements on dental casts, smaller permanent teeth in children with cleft palate have previously been reported in the literature; however, the early maturation of teeth and the size of the follicles and crowns have not been investigated.
HYPOTHESIS: The maturation of the mandibular permanent first molar (M1(inf)) is delayed, and the mesiodistal diameters of the follicle and crown of M1(inf), respectively, are reduced in children with isolated cleft palate (ICP).
DESIGN: Retrospective, longitudinal. Cephalometric X-rays were available for 2 and 22 months old children w

Direct or indirect resorption are both perceived as a reaction to an applied force. This is in contrast to orthopaedic surgeons who describe apposition as 'the reaction to loading of bone'. The article reviews the literature on intrusion of teeth with periodontal breakdown, and on the basis of clinical and experimental studies. The conclusion is reached that intrusion can lead to an improved attachment level, and that forces have to be to low and continuous. The tissue reaction to a force system generating translation of premolars and molars in the five Macaca fascicularis monkeys is described

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationships between different facial types, and both the buccolingual molar inclination and cortical bone thickness of the mandible. The material consisted of 31 dry skulls of modern Japanese males from the Museum of the University of Tokyo. They all demonstrated normal occlusion with minimal dental discrepancy, and without crossbite or facial asymmetry. The buccolingual inclination of the second molar (M2) in the long-faced subjects was significantly smaller than the same dimension in the average- and short-faced subjects. It was found that the

Background: In modern dentistry, alveolar socket preservation after tooth extraction plays a critical role in maintaining the alveolar ridge for future dental implants. This retrospective clinical study evaluated bone-level changes 15 years after immediate implant placement, coupled with alveolar ridge preservation. Methods: Fifty non-smoking patients aged 25 to 75 (30 males and 20 females) who underwent single-implant rehabilitation in both anterior and posterior regions of the upper and lower jaws were included. The study examined bone levels and implant survival over time, using standardize

The purpose of this study was to analyze the biomechanical properties of implants made of different materials to replace missing teeth by using three-dimensional finite element analysis and provide a theoretic basis for clinical application. CBCT data was imported into the Mimics and 3-Matic to construct the three-dimensional finite element model of a missing tooth restored by an implant. Then, the model was imported into the Marc Mentat. Based on the variations of the implant materials (titanium, titanium-zirconia, zirconia and poly (ether-ether-ketone) (PEEK)) and bone densities (high and lo

INTRODUCTION: Lithium disilicate glass-ceramic (LDC) restorations exhibit microorganism infiltration, recurrent caries, pulpal lesions, periodontal inflammation, and cement exposure to the oral environment over time. All these factors lead to restoration failure. This systematic review aimed to investigate the clinical outcomes of LDC full-coverage crowns (FCC) in permanent teeth compared with those of other full-coverage restoration materials.
MATERIALS & METHODS: Search strategies were developed for four databases: Web of Science, OVID, PubMed, and Scopus. Data extraction and quality apprai
