Health status of the Neolithic population of Alepotrypa Cave, Greece.

During the Neolithic, human health and lifestyle changed following the adoption of domesticated plants and animals and sedentism. This paper presents a study on human osteological remains from Alepotrypa Cave, an important and very well-preserved Late and Final Greek Neolithic site occupied from 5000-3200 BC. The Alepotrypa sample comes from primary and secondary burials as well as scattered bone, and consists of a minimum number of 161 individuals. It includes equal proportions of adults and subadults and males and females, is characterized by high child mortality, and falls within the range

Skeletal and reticuloendothelial imaging in osteopetrosis: case report.

Skeletal and reticuloendothelial images, using Tc-99m HEDP and Tc-99m sulfur colloid respectively, were obtained from two adult patients with osteopetrosis. Skeletal images demonstrated increased activity in multiple fracture sites, in mandibular osteomyelitis, in ends of splayed long bones adjacent to joints, and in the epiphyseal ends of short tubular bones. The remainder of the skeleton involved with osteopetrosis showed no generalized increased uptake of Tc-99m HEDP. These findings indicate that metabolic activity in this disease is abnormally increased in the usual areas of bone growth bu

3D-Printed lithium disilicate-resin composites with bioinspired toughening radial-concentric architecture for dental restorations.

OBJECTIVES: Intrinsic brittleness is the main problem that leads to the failure of lithium disilicate (Li₂Si₂O₅) all-ceramic crown restoration. To overcome this, this study aims to: (1) Develop bioinspired radial-concentric Li₂Si₂O₅-resin composites that emulate the hierarchical architectures of horsetail grass and glass sponges to achieve biomechanical compatibility and improved damage tolerance. (2) Investigate the influence of key structural parameters-including shape factors (shafts and rings), ceramic volume fraction, and structural gradients-on mechanical performance. METHODS: Bioinspir

Biomechanical Performance of Zirconia-Calcium Silicate-Silver Hybrid Dental Crown Under Static and Transient Dynamic Loading: A Finite Element and TOPSIS-Based Multi-Criteria Evaluation.

All ceramic dental crowns are widely used in posterior restorations; however, their long-term biomechanical performance remains limited by stiffness mismatch and inadequate stress distribution under functional loading. This study aims to evaluate the biomechanical behavior of zirconia-calcium silicate-silver hybrid crown materials under static and transient dynamic loading conditions and to identify optimal compositions using a multi criteria decision making framework. A three-dimensional finite element model of a crown and tooth with bone system was developed, incorporating nine hybrid compos

Dental Barotrauma and Barodontalgia in Divers: A Comprehensive Review for Dental Practitioners.

Scuba diving exposes teeth, dental restorations and prosthetic devices to substantial hyperbaric mechanical stress. Dental barotrauma (pressure-induced structural injury) and barodontalgia (pressure-induced dental pain) are oral complications that remain underdiagnosed in routine dental practice, despite their capacity to cause acute pain, restoration failure and in-water emergencies. Gas entrapped within defective restorations, incompletely obturated root canals or poorly adapted prostheses responds to pressure change according to Boyle's law, generating forces that can fracture tooth structu

Tooth- and implant-related prognostic factors in treatment planning.

Following a comprehensive patient examination, including the assessment of periodontal and peri-implant diseases as well as considering the patient's needs, a pretherapeutic prognosis for each tooth and implant is given. Teeth and implants with a secure pretherapeutic prognosis require simple procedures and may be regarded as secure abutments for function and with a doubtful pretherapeutic prognosis usually need a comprehensive therapy. Such teeth and implants must be brought into the category with a secure prognosis by means of additional therapy such as endodontic, restorative, and surgical

GPX4-mediated bone ferroptosis under mechanical stress decreased bone formation via the YAP-TEAD signalling pathway.

Fracture of the alveolar bone resorption is a common complication in orthodontic treatment, which mainly caused by extreme mechanical loading. However, the ferroptosis with orthodontic tooth movement(OTM) relationship has not been thoroughly described. We here analysed whether ferroptosis is involved in OTM-associated alveolar bone loss. Mouse osteoblasts (MC-3T3) and knockdown glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) MC-3T3 were stimulated with compressive force loading and ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1, a ferroptosis inhibitor), and the changes in lipid peroxidation morphology, expression of ferroptosis-relat
