OBJECTIVE: The risk of latent tuberculosis (LTBI) in healthcare workers (HCWs) is high. Until recently, the tuberculin skin test (TST) was the only diagnostic test available for Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. A new enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay test, the QuantiFERON-TB Gold (QFT-G) test, was recommended by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as an alternative test for the diagnosis of LTBI in HCWs. Various mechanisms have been implicated in nitrogen mustard drug resistance. The role of these mechanisms in the development of chlorambucil drug resistance in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is discussed. We review these mechanisms with emphasis on the emerging role of DNA repair, and specifically, recombinational repair. Inhibition of these repair processes may lead to new therapies, not only in CLL, but in other malignancies as well.

A 36-kDa protein was isolated by affinity chromatography using Cymelarsan, an arsenical drug currently used in African trypanosomiasis treatment, as ligand. OBJECTIVES: The reason for high water absorption by room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) silicone denture soft lining materials has not been demonstrated previously. An experimental room-temperature vulcanizing (RTV) silicone soft lining material which had been shown to have good mechanical properties had high water absorption at equilibrium whilst losing only small amounts of soluble material after desorption. The volume change in the material was also high. A variety of formulations of the experimental material was devised in order to determine the cause of the high water sorption values.
