Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) is a critical factor in corneal endothelial cells (CECs) injury, yet the precise mechanisms remain poorly understood due to confounding variables in clinical studies. This study developed an acute high IOP model in New Zealand rabbits by vitreous cavity infusion to investigate the effects of high IOP on CECs. The authors present a rare case of acute bilateral cataract with phacomorphic glaucoma in a girl with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes mellitus without a known history of ocular problems. Within 3 months after the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus, she presented with high intraocular pressure. Her visual acuity was limited to hand motions. The patient required immediate surgical intervention. Postoperatively, the intraocular pressure normalized and bilateral visual acuity was 6/6.

We present a case of acute angle closure that occurred after insertion of an implantable contact lens (ICL). The apparent papillary-block angle closure did not resolve after 2 patent iridotomies and a surgical iridectomy, but did respond to pupil dilation (not constriction). RATIONALE: Canaliculitis is a frequently overlooked and misdiagnosed disease. Concurrent corneal ulceration with canaliculitis is uncommon. We report such a case.
PATIENT CONCERNS: An 87-year-old woman complained of swelling and pain of the right eye after acute angle closure glaucoma attack. Slit-lamp examination was compatible with the features of infectious keratitis, and the cultures from corneal scrapings grew Streptococcus anginosus later. Hourly topical vancomycin (25 mg/ml) was instilled, then the corneal ulceration improved initially but became stationary after 1-week treatment.

BACKGROUND: To assess the relationship between peripheral anterior chamber depth and anthropomorphic measurements.
METHODS: The Beijing Eye Study 2006 included 3251 (73.2%) subjects who returned for a follow-up examination after a baseline examination including 4335 subjects in 2001. The peripheral anterior chamber depth was estimated by slit lamp-assisted biomicroscopy using van Herick's method.
