Parental involvement in infection prevention and control in low- and middle-income country neonatal units: a scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Neonatal sepsis is a key contributor to neonatal mortality worldwide, and low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) are disproportionately affected. With antimicrobial resistance challenging effective treatment of neonatal sepsis, it is increasingly urgent to improve infection prevention and control (IPC) in LMIC neonatal units (NNU) and reduce transmission of infections. One pathway to improvement which merits further exploration is the collaboration with families to build an IPC intervention.Families are constantly present on neonatal units, and much of the hands-on care for thei

Self-efficacy, mindfulness, and perceived social support as resources to maintain the mental health of students in Switzerland's universities of applied sciences: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Switzerland's student population is at a particularly high risk of developing mental health disorders, creating a major challenge for Switzerland's higher education establishments. Research to date has primarily sought to identify the risk factors affecting students' mental health; however, their exposure to these factors is often unavoidable. Thus, the present study adopted a salutogenic approach focussing on the determinants of health. We examined the mental health resources available to students reported in the literature as being susceptible to helping them maintain good mental

Pediatric Organ Transplantation and Learning Disabilities: A Systematic Review.

OBJECTIVES: Organ transplant is a vital treatment for pediatric patients. Kidney, liver, heart, and other organ transplants can significantly improve the quality of life for children with various chronic diseases and can improve long-term survival rates. However, the effects of transplant on cognitive and educational aspects should be considered, including the effects of pre- and posttransplant treatment protocols, medications, psychosocial stress, and surgical interventions. Learning disabilities can negatively affect the child's educational life, social relationships, and overall quality of

Burden of multidrug-resistant bacteria among HIV-positive individuals in Ethiopia: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria are a significant cause of severe infections, particularly in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive individuals because of their weakened immunity. Since there was no previous pooled representative data regarding the MDR bacteria among HIV-positive individuals in Ethiopia, this systematic review and meta-analysis is required. METHODS: This study was conducted based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A literature search was performed using PubMed, Medline, EMBASE, Google Scholar, Hi

Recognition of the Effect of Vocal Exercises by Fuzzy Triangular Naive Bayes, a Machine Learning Classifier: A Preliminary Analysis.

OBJECTIVES: Machine learning (ML) methods allow the development of expert systems for pattern recognition and predictive analysis of intervention outcomes. It has been used in Voice Sciences, mainly to discriminate between healthy and dysphonic voices. Parameter patterns of vocal acoustic analysis and vocal perceptual assessment can be evaluated by ML classifiers, such as the Fuzzy Triangular Naive Bayes (FTriangNB), after using techniques that improve the vocal quality of individuals with healthy or dysphonic voices. Thus, the goal of this study was to analyze the performance of the FTriangNB

Conservative and surgical modalities in the management of paediatric parapneumonic effusion and empyema: a protocol for a living systematic review and network meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Parapneumonic effusion and empyema are common complications of paediatric pneumonia. Acceptable treatment modalities for large parapneumonic effusions include antibiotics alone or in conjunction with surgical interventions. Clear guidelines on the best treatment approach are lacking and mostly based on evidence prior to widespread pneumococcal conjugate 13-valent vaccination (PCV-13). METHODS AND ANALYSIS: A living systematic review and network meta-analysis will be performed comparing the five treatment modalities: (1) antibiotics alone; (2) chest tube drainage without fibrinol

Investigating the Determinants of Toxoplasma gondii Prevalence in Meat: A Systematic Review and Meta-Regression.

BACKGROUND: Toxoplasma gondii is one of the most widespread parasites in humans and can cause severe illness in immunocompromised individuals. However, its role in healthy people is probably under-appreciated. The complex epidemiology of this protozoan recognizes several infection routes but consumption of contaminated food is likely to be the predominant one. Among food, consumption of raw and undercooked meat is a relevant route of transmission, but the role of different meat producing animal species and meats thereof is controversial. OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present work is to summarize

Text messaging for maternal and infant retention in prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission services: A pragmatic stepped-wedge cluster-randomized trial in Kenya.

BACKGROUND: Timely diagnosis of infant HIV infection is essential for antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation. In a randomized controlled trial, we found the Texting Improves Testing (TextIT) intervention (a theory-based text messaging system) to be efficacious for improving infant HIV testing rates and maternal retention in prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission (PMTCT) programs. Using an implementation science approach, we aimed to evaluate real-world effectiveness of the intervention. METHODS AND FINDINGS: In a pragmatic, cluster-randomized, stepped-wedge trial with 2 time periods …

Complexity of Psychological and Behavioral Science in Diabetes: The 2025 Richard R. Rubin Award Lecture.

Complexity was a strong and persistent theme in Richard Rubin's work on psychology and behavior science in diabetes. That complexity began with his recognizing that, as challenging or horrible as diabetes may be, we can also manage to live good lives with it. With his many contributions along the way, this article will review the growth of our field to include 1) recognition of the psychological problems and challenges of diabetes; 2) developing ways both to raise up the very real challenges of diabetes and to promote leading good lives with it; 3) understanding how psychological problems may

Micro-recovery dosing in elite sport: an initiative-taking, organization-wide recovery framework.

Recovery in elite professional sport is now widely understood as a multidimensional process spanning physiological, psychological, cognitive, and social domains, yet recovery models applied in professional clubs and sporting organisations have been slow to reflect this. Most remain reactive and athlete-centred, leaving the full complexity of competitive fatigue inadequately addressed and the equivalent recovery demands on coaching and performance staff entirely unrecognised. No structural framework currently places initiative-taking, calendar-embedded multidimensional recovery as a deliberate
