This collective review includes all available case reports of smooth muscle (stromal) tumors of the stomach in the world literature from 1762 to 1996. It updates our previous review from 1767 to 1959. Overall, we identified 2189 patients with leiomyoma (LM) and 1594 with leiomyosarcoma (LMS). The peak age of incidence of LM was 50 to 59 years, while LMS was most frequently seen between ages 60 and 69. A 52-year-old woman presented with a laryngeal sarcoma eight years after receiving two doses, each of 30 mCi, of iodine-125 for thyrotoxicosis. That extrathyroidal tissue receives a higher radiation dose of low-energy photon radiation from iodine-125 than from an equivalent microcurie dose of iodine-131 and that the tumour was of a type which rarely arises spontaneously in the larynx suggest a possible link between the development of the tumour and iodine-125 therapy.

Sarcomas of the kidney are highly malignant neoplasms. Abnormal vascularity can be detected in almost all types of sarcomas, but arteriovenous shunting, pooling of contrast material, and tumor staining are seldom present. Extension to renal vein and inferior vena cava may occur. Moreover, the unexpected leiomyosarcoma rate was 0.08% (3 in 3785). Endometrial cancer is the most common gynaecologic cancer and its incidence increases with age. Prognosis is good because in over 80% of cases the cancer is discovered early.
