The processes of learning and storage of the results of learning were studied in a model of Alzheimer's disease in two groups of rhesus macaques (three individuals in each group). Studies were performed after injection of neurotoxins (group I) and physiological saline (group II, controls). OBJECTIVE: In a recent study on picture naming and word reading in dyslexics and control children we found a combination of normal picture retrieval times and severe reading impairments in dyslexics. A case is reported of an associative visual agnosic patient who could not draw from memory objects he could recognize, even though he could copy drawings flawlessly. His ability to generate mental visual images was found to be spared, as was his ability to operate upon mental images. This Monograph summarizes a comparative study of recall memory among children from two Guatemalan towns and one American city. The age interval of greatest improvement in serial recall of pictures, words and orientations of dolls varied across settings by as much as 4-6 years, but performance improved with age in all communities. It was suggested that the activation of varied strategies to aid recall memory emerged in all children during the preadolescent years, but environmental factors, as yet unspecified, determined both the slope of the growth function and its asymptotic level.
