The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of cooling the tonsillar fossa during thermal welding tonsillectomy on pain and wound healing. Prospective, blinded, clinical study was conducted. 30 patients who underwent tonsillectomy by thermal welding were evaluated. Reimplantation of frozen autogenous lesioned mandible was performed in 31 patients with mandibular bone cysts and tumours. 26 reimplanted grafts survived without complications following surgery. The clinical course in 50 eyes was analysed after pars plana vitrectomy for progressive diabetic fibrovascular proliferations. Patients were assigned to pars plana vitrectomy if progression of proliferations occurred despite a photocoagulation treatment with a mean number of 3500 burns and additional peripheral cryoablation. A report is given of retinopathy of prematurity findings in a Danish county (pop. 342,000) for birth years 1988-90. Out of 12,116 liveborn infants 200 were followed with eye controls during (at least) the first 3 months. In 135 gestational age and/or birth weight were below 32 weeks/1750 g. Fifteen eyes with complicated retinal detachments--11 with proliferative vitreoretinopathy (C3 D3), 2 with posterior segment trauma, and 2 with inflammatory retinopathy--were treated with vitrectomy, membrane peeling, and large posterior retinotomy. We reviewed 55 consecutive cases of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment treated with pneumatic retinopexy. Eyes with inferior retinal breaks from the 4- to 8-o'clock positions or macular holes with retinal detachment were excluded. Forty-five eyes (82%) were reattached with one operation. The results of surgical treatment of 79 children with supraventricular and ventricular tachyarrhythmias refractory to medical therapy gained at the Bakulev Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery are presented in this paper. Two hundred ninety-four women with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia were treated once with either cryotherapy or laser vaporization. Treatment results were controlled for grade, size, and distribution of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.
