PURPOSE: We report a case of Molteno shunt avulsion after blunt trauma resulting in corneal melting. The implant's connecting tube had been placed above the superior rectus muscle.
METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: After blunt trauma, the secondary plate of a double-plated Molteno implant became completely dislodged anteriorly onto the patient's cornea. The corneal tissue entrapped beneath the avulsed plate was found to have extensive melting requiring emergency explantation of the Molteno implant and corneal grafting.
CONCLUSIONS: Corneal melting after Molteno shunt avulsion is a novel findin

Thirty-five patients (mean age 43.7 months, mean weight 13 kg) underwent anterograde patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) occlusion with Gianturco coils (coil group). We report a case of disk embolization from a Bjork-Shiley mitral valve prosthesis (Shiley Inc., Irvine, CA, USA) which occurred during transeptal atrioventricular (RV) junction ablation. The disk lodged in the lower thoracic aorta. The patient was treated successfully by emergency valve replacement, and the escaped disk has been left in situ with no complications.

Thirty-eight patients with malignant biliary obstruction were treated with expandable metallic stent (EMS). Successful insertion of stents was attained in all cases, and in 34 of 38 patients, the stents remained patent and sufficiently expanded, and led to the removal of external drainage catheter. Rigid plate and screw fixation is the mainstay of treatment for complex fractures of the facial skeleton. Complications of plate and screw fixation include prominence, infection, exposure, and migration. Five hundred and seven patients undergoing plate and screw fixation for facial fractures (1112 fractures) from 1983 to 1988 were followed for complications. Duodenal penetration by a Greenfield filter occurred in a 77 year old woman 6 years after it had been inserted into her inferior vena cava. The reported incidence of complications associated with the Greenfield filter is low. We report a case of penetration of the device into the duodenum. Plain abdominal X-rays demonstrated angulation and deformation of the filter. Cavography and abdominal CT confirmed transcaval penetration of the duodenum. The patient had suffered from severe diarrhoea, night sweats and weight loss which resolved completely with operative removal of the filter.

BACKGROUND: Conversion of SG to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is increasing. Intrathoracic migration of the sleeve (ITM) often seems associated and is increasingly reported.

CASE: A 77-year-old woman underwent Gamma3 Nail (Stryker) for an extracapsular fracture of the neck of femur on the left side. Eight months later, the lag screw had migrated medially into the pelvis and was in contact with the internal iliac vessels.
