The experiences of more than 200 cisternographic examination with 111Indium-DTPA are reported. The radiopharmaceutical was tolerated without adverse reactions and the suboccipital intrathecal injection more appropriate than the lumbar. With 111In-DTPA excellent scans were obtained up to 48 h after application. 111In is compared with other radiopharmaceuticals for cisternography. The cisternography remains valuable as an additional examination of pneumencephalography and cranial computerized tomography.

Spontaneous intracranial hypotension is a clinical syndrome caused by a loss of cerebrospinal fluid volume, usually secondary to leaking through structural defects of the spinal dura mater. We evaluated and compared a new bombesin analog [Tyr-Gly5, Nle(14)]-BBN(6-14) conjugated to DOTA or DTPA and radiolabeled with In-111 in low and high GRPR expressing tumor models. Both peptides were radiolabeled with high radiochemical purity and specific activity. In vitro assays on T-47D, LNCaP and PC-3 cells showed that the affinity of peptides is similar and a higher binding and internalization of DOTA-peptide to PC-3 cells was observed. Both peptides could target PC-3 and LNCaP tumors in vivo and both tumor types could be visualized by microSPECT/CT.

BACKGROUND: We aimed to explore (i) the short-term retention of intramedullary implanted mesenchymal stem cells BMSCs and (ii) their impact on the bone blood flow and metabolism in a rat model of hindlimb irradiation.
METHODS: Three months after 30 Gy irradiation, fourteen animals were referred into 2 groups: a sham-operated group (n = 6) and a treated group (n = 8) in which ¹¹¹In-labelled BMSCs (2 × 10⁶ cells) were injected in irradiated tibias. Bone blood flow and metabolism were assessed by serial (99m)Tc-HDP scintigraphy and 1-wk cell retention by recordings of (99m)Tc/¹¹¹In activities.

Benign thymic hyperplasia (TH) is a known feature of hyperthyroidism. In most cases, thymic enlargement is minimal; however, this syndrome may occasionally appear as an appreciable anterior mediastinal mass. Recognition of the benign nature of TH and its regression following treatment of the hyperthyroidism is important to prevent unnecessary surgical procedures. We present a case of TH associated with hyperthyroidism due to Graves' disease.

Eight patients (six with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, one with immune pancytopenia, and one with autoimmune haemolytic anaemia), who had previously been splenectomized, were found to have splenunculi using radioactively labelled heat damaged autologous erythrocytes. In all patients the splenunculi were found to have significant 'splenic function'. However, there was a poor correlation between the size and the function of the splenunculi. BACKGROUND: Labeled leukocyte imaging is a helpful diagnostic tool in the detection of inflammation and sepsis. The technetium Tc 99m hexamethyl propylene amine oxime (99mTc HMPAO)-labeled leukocyte scan has been found to be more sensitive than the Indium-111 labeled leukocyte scan in detecting inflammatory bowel disease, with reported sensitivities of 95% to 100%. Experience with the 99mTc HMPAO-labeled leukocyte scan was examined and its clinical applications evaluated in the immediate treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
