Interproximal wear facets and tooth associations in the Paşalar hominoid sample.

Interproximal wear facets were examined on hominoid teeth from the middle Miocene site at Paşalar, Turkey. The aim was to find matches between adjacent premolar and molar teeth from single individuals that were collected in the field as isolated teeth and use them to reconstruct tooth rows. These were then used to investigate: (1) the wear gradient on the molar teeth; (2) the dispersal of teeth from single mandibles and maxillae; (3) the size ratios among the molars; and (4) the number of individuals represented by the hominoid sample. Facets were scored for size and shape and were assessed vi

[Surgical management of extracranial internal carotid artery aneurysms].

Aneurysms of the extracranial internal carotid artery are rare but may present as a mass, with ischemic symptoms, or with fatal hemorrhage. We operated on aneurysms in four patients, two males and two females, whose ages ranged from 47 to 57 years. While a lot of etiological factors for the aneurysms have been known to include trauma, vascular dysplasia, infection or surgery using patch graft for carotid endarterectomy, three aneurysms in our series were atherosclerotic and one was spontaneously dissecting. One patient had focal neurological deficit due to embolism, two presented with a growin

Secretome of SHED Sheets Facilitates Mandibular Bone Defect Repair by Shifting Macrophages Inflammatory State.

OBJECTIVE: The inflammatory response, especially the inflammatory status of macrophages, is crucial for bone graft integration and regeneration. Cell sheets from various stromal cells exhibit immunomodulatory and pro-osteogenic traits. However, the therapeutic potential of the secretome from human exfoliated deciduous teeth stromal cell (SHED) sheets remains unclear. This study aimed to explore whether SHED sheet-derived secretome (SS-E) aids bone defect repair via macrophage immunomodulation and to clarify the underlying mechanisms. METHODS: SS-E was collected from osteogenically induced SHE

Influence of Connector Design on Displacement and Micromotion in Tooth-Implant Fixed Partial Dentures Using Different Lengths and Diameters: A Three-Dimensional Finite Element Study.

The literature presents insufficient data evaluating the displacement and micromotion effects resulting from the combined use of tooth-implant connections in fixed partial dentures. Analyzing the biomechanical behavior of tooth-implant fixed partial denture (FPD) prothesis is vital for achieving an optimum design and successful clinical implementation. The objective of this study was to determine the relative significance of connector design on the displacement and micromotion of tooth-implant-supported fixed dental prostheses under occlusal vertical loading. Digital versus radiographic accuracy evaluation of guided implant surgery: an in vitro study.

BACKGROUND: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is the most widely used method for postsurgical evaluation of the accuracy of guided implant surgery. However, the disadvantages of CBCT include radiation exposure, artifacts caused by metal implants, and high cost. Few studies have introduced a digital registration method to replace CBCT for evaluating the accuracy of guided surgery. The purpose of this study was to compare digital registration to conventional CBCT in terms of the capacity to evaluate the implant positioning accuracy of guided surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This in vitro stud

Chairside Tomosynthesis for Intraoperative Imaging in Implant Dentistry: Clinical Applications and Workflow Considerations.

Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) has become an important component of implant dentistry by providing three-dimensional visualization for diagnosis and treatment planning. However, once implant surgery begins, obtaining additional three-dimensional imaging may require interruption of the procedure and transportation of the patient to a dedicated imaging system. Chairside tomosynthesis offers an alternative approach by providing focused sectional imaging directly within the operatory. This article describes the principles, clinical applications, and workflow considerations of chairside tomos

A finite element analysis of a dental implant with a conformal lattice structure: a parametric exploration under occlusal loading.

Ti-6Al-4 V dental implants are widely used because of their excellent biocompatibility and mechanical strength; however, their high elastic modulus relative to jawbone may cause stress shielding and peri-implant bone resorption. To improve biomechanical compatibility, this study introduced a gradient-regulated porous design into dental implants. A three-dimensional mandibular model was reconstructed from CT image data using reverse engineering techniques. Based on Gibson-Ashby theory, several porous architectures with a unified external octet-truss framework but different internal topologies w

Ossification of the pterygoalar and pterygospinous ligaments: a computed tomography analysis of infratemporal fossa anatomical variants relevant to percutaneous trigeminal rhizotomy.

OBJECTIVE: Ossification of pterygoalar and pterygospinous ligaments traversing the superior aspect of the infratemporal fossa results in formation of osseous bars that can obstruct percutaneous needle access to the trigeminal ganglion through the foramen ovale (FO), interfere with lateral mandibular nerve block, and impede transzygomatic surgical approaches. Presence of these ligaments has been studied on dry skulls, but description of their radiological anatomy is scarce, in particular on cross-sectional imaging. The aim of this study was to describe visualization of pterygoalar and pterygosp
