Predicting Enzyme pH Optima from Structure Using Equivariant Graph Neural Networks.

Enzyme activity and stability are strongly modulated by pH, making the catalytic pH optimum (pHopt) a key parameter in enzyme development and biotechnological applications. Experimental determination of pHopt is, however, labor-intensive and time-consuming, motivating the development of accurate computational prediction methods. Here, we introduce pHoptNN, an E(n)-equivariant graph neural network designed to predict enzyme pHopt directly from three-dimensional protein structures. pHoptNN was trained on a curated data set comprising nearly 12,000 enzymes with experimentally determined pHopt val

Atomic-Scale Understanding of Doping Effects in BaTiO3 in the Presence of Water: Implications for Photocatalytic Water Splitting.

The search for efficient photocatalysts for sustainable hydrogen production has driven growing interest in barium titanate (BaTiO3)-based materials, particularly through polymorph control, surface engineering, and nonmetal and transition-metal doping. In this work, we provide an atomic-scale understanding of structural modifications in nitrogen-, fluorine-, and rhodium-doped BaTiO3 using Density Functional Theory (DFT), as well as pristine and fluorine-substituted BaTiO3 using reactive force-field molecular dynamics (ReaxFF-MD) simulations. DFT results for pristine and doped tetragonal BaTiO3,

Synergistic respiratory risks in coffee processing: a systematic review of alpha-diketone, carbon monoxide, and dust co-exposure.

Modern coffee processing generates a complex, co-localized mixture of respiratory hazards, such as carbon monoxide (CO), volatile α-diketones (principally diacetyl and 2,3-pentanedione), and bio-reactive coffee dust, that challenge single-agent risk paradigms. This systematic review synthesizes quantitative exposure data, exposure-response relationships, mechanistic plausibility, and control efficacy to characterize the occupational respiratory burden associated with simultaneous exposure to these agents. A systematic search of literature (in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Syste

Ankle-foot orthosis mechanical testing: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) are assistive devices that support the ankle during gait. AFO mechanical properties, such as rotational stiffness about the ankle, influence the level of support these devices provide. Interest in quantifying AFO mechanical properties is on the rise but is limited by the lack of standardized measurement and assessment techniques. This scoping review discusses existing techniques for the measurement of AFO mechanical properties and introduces a taxonomy for organizing and describing these methods. METHODS: A scoping review was conducted using a snowballin

T-cell receptor-engineered T cells (TCR-e T cells): A novel cellular therapy for hematopoietic malignancies?

Despite the undeniable successes of chimeric antigen receptor T cells in the treatment of numerous hematopoietic malignancies, instances in which this therapy shows limited effectiveness, such as in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), still exists. This situation has prompted a search for alternative cellular therapies for neoplastic diseases. T-cell receptor-engineered T cells (TCR-e T cells) represent another approach to cellular cancer therapy that relies on the genetic modifications of lymphocytes. They are designed to interact with endoplasmic tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) presented on the c
