Transfer of the latissimus dorsi to the rotator cuff is widely used for restoring shoulder abduction and external rotation in sequelae of brachial plexus palsy; however, its long-term results are not well known. Spastic thumb deformity is the result of imbalance between intrinsic and extrinsic forces acting across unstable joints. Ten patients were treated with revision ankle ligament reconstruction from 1989 through 1994 for recurrent symptomatic instability of the ankle after failure of a primary reconstruction. There were seven female and three male patients with an average age of 28 years. In four patients, symptoms developed shortly after the first reconstruction and in six patients, symptoms developed 56.2 months (average) after the initial reconstruction surgery. The findings at clinical and roentgenological follow-up examination of 44 patients are reported to illustrate the long-term results of a modified Watson-Jones technique up to 90 months after the operation. Within the framework of a prospective study, 40 patients were examined postoperatively 12 months after their anterior cruciate ligament had been replaced by a doubled semitendinosus tendon arthroscopically combined with a lateral extra-articular procedure. Between 1971 and 1982 tendon interposition arthroplasty in combination with denervation of the wrist joint was performed on 55 patients with either Kienböck's disease, irreducible lunate dislocations with or without scaphoid dislocation, or scaphoid non-union with a small proximal fragment. Four patients with complete paralysis of the deltoid muscle with irrepairable axillary nerve lesion and one with traumatic destruction of the shoulder cap were treated with a bipolar latissimus dorsi muscle transfer. 33 patients with injuries to the radial nerve were reviewed, on average, 12.1 (5-20) years after secondary repair. 24 were male and nine female, with a mean age of 29.8 (7-54) years.
