AIM: To assess the effect of marginal elevation in endodontically treated teeth repaired with CAD/CAM ceramic endocrowns on marginal adaptation.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: 20 sound mandibular first molars were treated endodontically and prepared for endocrowns with a butt-joint occlusal edge and mesial proximal box. They were divided into two groups (n = 10 each) based on ceramic type: Group H (hybrid ceramic) and group L [lithium disilicate ceramics (LDS) ceramic]. Each group was further divided into subgroups E (with marginal elevation) and N (without marginal elevation), with 5 specimens each.

BACKGROUND: With the advances in the adhesive science, several conservative treatment options such as non-retentive overlays have been suggested for endodontically treated posterior teeth. However, information is scarce regarding the fracture strength and adaptation of non-retentive overlays compared with endocrowns, and the effect of material type in this respect. Thus, this study aimed to assess the fracture strength and internal and marginal adaptation of lithium disilicate (LDS) and hybrid ceramic endocrowns and non-retentive overlays for endodontically treated molar teeth.
METHODS: This

BACKGROUND: Early implant placement combined with simultaneous contour augmentation was able to rebuild stable facial hard-tissue and soft-tissue contours that were esthetically pleasing. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical esthetic outcome, when two different bone grafting materials were used.
METHODS: Forty-eight patients were randomly assigned into two groups. In the control group, autogenous bone was used to cover the exposed implant surface then a layer of deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) was added. This graft combination was then combined with a collagen membr

INTRODUCTION: Orthodontic preprosthetic treatment is an important feature of interdisciplinary dental therapy in the adult patient. Extrusion can be very useful to obtain successful prosthodontic results. The literature describes different ways to obtain forced dental eruption. Miniscrews represent a step towards resolving the problem of anchorage in orthodontics, including in forced eruption cases. The aim of this study is to report two cases of orthodontic preprosthetic extrusion by means of miniscrews and bone anchorage. We will describe and discuss the indications, orthodontic and surgical

This report concerns long-term (4 to 5 years) clinical evaluation of 22 resolved (complete bone closure) mandibular Class 2 furcation defects following coronally advanced flap procedures and citric acid root treatment with or without adjunctive implantation of freeze-dried, demineralized allogeneic bone. Sixteen buccal furcation sites in 12 patients were available for the follow-up evaluation. The furcation involvement was independently evaluated by a panel of three examiners, each using three furcation index systems. Oral hygiene standards, gingival health, probing depth, clinical attachment

Bonding to dentin and enamel has increased restorative treatment options, provided the materials are used to optimum advantage. Restorative dentists must understand the indications and the proper mechanisms for using these materials. As with many techniques and procedures, it takes more time to describe than to accomplish. The tooth-conditioning and cementing steps are standard treatment procedures used daily in most dental offices. Tin-plating and preparing the metal surface are laboratory procedures and consume no chair time. The clinical advantages of bonding--such as resistance to microlea

A child born with missing or deformed upper extremities must learn to develop alternatives for the activities of daily living (ADL). To assure an independent existence, substitutes for nonfunctioning arms and hands must be developed. Teeth can replace hands for all activities that require pinch and grasp, as well as to support adaptive devices for turning pages, typing, drawing and painting. However, without carefully planned dental care, teeth, particularly incisors and canines, will show excessive wear if used for hands over the years. Loss of teeth threatens independence in self-care and in

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the hypothesis that the risk of proximal caries in posterior primary teeth is higher when interproximal contact points are closed than when they are open.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study design was used with a sample of 286 children aged 24 to 72 months (mean age 54 months +/- 16 months). Children with any permanent dentition were excluded. Caries (defined as a lesion halfway through enamel or further) was assessed radiographically by a single dentist. The open/closed nature of contact points was assessed by a different dentist through re

The objective of this prospective clinical trial was to investigate the influence of the residual coronal structure of endodontically treated teeth and the type of cement used for luting fiber posts on four-year clinical survival. Two groups (n = 60) were defined, depending on the amount of residual coronal dentin after abutment build-up and final preparation: (1) more than 50% of coronal residual structure; and (2) equal to or less than 50% of coronal residual structure. Within each group, teeth were randomly divided into 2 subgroups (n = 30) according to the material used for luting fiber po

Maxillary molar distalization is an increasingly popular option for the resolution of Class II malocclusions. This communication describes the effects of one particular molar distalizing appliance, the distal jet, in a sample of 20 consecutively treated and growing subjects (11 females, nine males; mean starting age of 13) and compares these effects with those of similar devices. Pre- and postdistalization cephalometric radiographs and dental models were analyzed to determine the dental and skeletal effects. The distal jet appliances were constructed using a biomechanical couple to direct the

BACKGROUND: Parental lack of awareness about oral and dental health has been strongly linked to increased dental caries in children. Furthermore, many parents are not familiar with the pediatric dentistry specialty, resulting in limited knowledge regarding its role in maintaining children's oral health. Before designing effective educational interventions, understanding parental awareness and attitudes is essential. This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate parents' awareness and attitudes regarding their children's oral and dental health, as well as pediatric dentistry.
METHODS: A 24-ques

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Due to the high prevalence of dental caries, fixed dental restorations are regularly required to restore compromised teeth or replace missing teeth while retaining function and aesthetic appearance. The fabrication of dental restorations, however, remains challenging due to the complexity of the human masticatory system as well as the unique morphology of each individual dentition. Adaptation and reworking are frequently required during the insertion of fixed dental prostheses (FDPs), which increase cost and treatment time. This article proposes a data-driven approach
