ABH and Lewis antigens are detected by immunohistochemistry exclusively in the anterior cornea epithelium and in the conjunctiva bulbi, but not in the ciliary body, in the retina, or in the vitreous body of the eye. The ABH antigens found in the vitreous humor by the absorption elution technique (Rordorf et al., Forensic Sci. Int. 41, 1989, 111-116) are probably glycosphingolipids, which are not detected by immunohistochemistry. They may come from the plasma of uveal blood vessels, or be produced by local cells.

The blood of patients suffering from cataracts, glaucoma and strabismus was grouped and the distribution of their blood groups was compared with that of blood groups in volunteers at blood donor clinics. BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Alopecia areata (AA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by noncicatricial hair loss localized on hair, beard, mustache, eyebrow, eyelash, and sometimes on the body. Although etiopathogenesis is not fully understood, many studies show remarkable associations between various diseases and ABO blood groups. However, there is no study with AA and blood groups.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze and summarize clinical manifestation of hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN) due to anti-M.
METHODS: Data of one case of HDN due to anti-M and the reports of 21 cases seen in the past 20 years at the home country were reviewed and analyzed.

BACKGROUND: Whether natural selection may have attributed to the observed blood group frequency differences between populations remains debatable. The ABO system has been associated with several diseases and recently also with susceptibility to COVID-19 infection. Associative studies of the RhD system and diseases are sparser.
