Localized vertical bone defects within the anterior mandibular alveolar ridge frequently pose a unique challenge for functionally and aesthetically pleasing rehabilitation of this area. Causes for significant bone loss in this region may include periodontal disease, postextraction atrophy, trauma, and orthodontic treatment. In the presence of such a defect, ridge augmentation may be obligatory before installation of dental implants. Several surgical procedures, notably bone augmentation techniques, including guided bone regeneration, onlay bone grafting, and interpositional grafts, have been d

Implant supported rehabilitation has become very common in treatment plans nowadays, yet many patients lack the vertical and horizontal bone dimensions required for endosseous implant insertion. Distraction osteogenesis is a technique in which bone is generated by progressive elongation of two bone fragments following an osteotomy or corticotomy. Distraction osteogenesis of the alveolar ridge as a treatment modality in implant dentistry is a very useful technique that allows for adequate bone formation suitable for implant insertion. Alveolar distraction can be unidirectional, bidirectional, m

INTRODUCTION: Alveolar bone seems to play a key role in providing support to the teeth, which are anchored to the bone by desmodontal fibers. The progressive alveolar bone resorption process occurs due to a loss of anatomic, biologic and mechanical factors. Mechanical stimulation of alveolar bone during mastication is crucial in keeping the teeth and underlying bone healthy. Tooth extraction leads to typical bone deficiency of ridge width and height of alveolar crest and reduces the possibility of placing screw titanium implants. When tooth extraction is necessary, trauma should be minimized d

The aim of this study was to describe a technique for the assessment of soft tissue volumetric and profilometric changes. The technique has been applied at the alveolar contour of mild to moderate horizontal ridge defects after soft tissue augmentation at pontic sites. A quantitative three-dimensional (3D) analysis based on laser scanning was used for the measurement of volume gain and horizontal changes of alveolar profile 5 months after a subepithelial connective tissue graft using a pouch approach in five patients. All the surgical sites healed uneventfully. A mean soft tissue volume increa

An insufficient volume of the alveolar bone may prevent implants from being placed in the prosthetically optimal position. Complex restoration of bony structures is required to achieve long-term peri-implant bone stability and represents an adequate prosthetic solution. Background and Objectives: The shell technique has become a widespread and important method for guided bone regeneration in dentistry. Allogeneic bone materials appear to be the most similar substitution for autogenous bone transplants. However, there are few studies using cortical bone allografts in combination with a mix of a

With tooth loss, there is increased bone loss of the alveolus. In some cases alveolar bone loss can be severe. Severe bone loss may cause difficulty for patients wearing a conventional prosthesis or being restored with dental implants. Severe alveolar bone loss can result in malnutrition, poor self-esteem, multiple dental visits for failed prosthesis, and jaw fracture. In many cases, patients with loss of alveolar bone height or width may require reconstructive procedures. Vertical ridge augmentation remains a challenge in the reconstruction of the atrophic maxilla and mandible. The main probl

OBJECTIVES: To systematically appraise the evidence on premature ridge resorption following various vertical ridge augmentation (VRA) techniques in healthy adult patients undergoing staged VRA procedures. The study aimed to identify VRA techniques resulting in the least premature bone resorption and to rank them using Bayesian Network Meta-Analysis (NMA).
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Searches were conducted in six databases to identify randomised clinical trials (RCT) comparing staged VRA techniques with a minimum of 3 months follow-up. Relative premature bone resorption (PBR%) overall (primary) and

A digital method of designing a patient-specific osteotomy guide for an ultrasonic osteotome used for alveolar ridge splitting is described. The cutting paths are planned based on the ideal restoration and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and then transferred to surgery by the osteotomy guide. Detachable lateral guides and longitudinal guide planes enable the required bone plate formation. This approach enhances accuracy, safety, and customization in alveolar ridge splitting.

This case report describes the successful 10-years interdisciplinary treatment of ankylosed upper central incisors with an anterior vertical ridge defect. This treatment was challenging as ankylosis was present before the growth spurt. Orthodontic treatment in association with decoronation, a xenogeneic bone graft, an autogenous sub-epithelial connective tissue graft, and implant placement were performed to correct the vertical ridge defect and to re-establish appropriate function, gingival health, and aesthetics. Decoronation performed during the growth spurt was the key to avoiding alveolar

INTRODUCTION: Although alveolar ridge preservation may minimize alveolar ridge shrinkage following tooth extraction, there is a paucity of data on the effects of alveolar ridge preservation on implant-related outcomes. The purpose of this manuscript is to report on peri-implantitis of an implant placed at a site that had alveolar ridge preservation three decades earlier, and the subsequent dislodgement of an approximately 1-cm3 grafted bone specimen during degranulation 4 months after implant reversal.

We report bone augmentation for alveolar bone loss at the bottom of the nasal cavity in conjunction with simultaneous implant placement in the same operative field in the esthetic zone. The patient was a 33-year-old man who was referred to us requesting implant treatment after undergoing tooth extraction (#12) due to root fracture. An examination was performed using cone beam computed tomography (CT) and simulation software. The results indicated insufficient volume of labial bone for the requested procedure, especially at the planned site of the implant neck. Therefore, bone augmentation was

Healing of extraction sockets where the buccal plate of bone has been destroyed often results in localized ridge deformities. This is most likely due to the ingrowth of extraskeletal connective tissue into the space originally occupied by the tooth which then fills with a combination of bone and soft tissue. Techniques for managing these defects have been described, but it would be preferable to prevent them from occurring at all. Using the principles of guided tissue regeneration, a surgical technique is described that can be applied to post-extraction sites that are deficient in alveolar bon

The aim of preventive implantology is to prevent or delay the resorption of edentulous alveolar ridges. The classifications of the resorption stages of the mandible which are now in use, are not applicable to preventive implantology. After anatomic research it was concluded that the resorption of the alveolar ridge of the mandible should be classified in three stages. Loaded as well as unloaded implants can function as tooth root analogues in maintaining the volume of the edentulous ridge.

Maxillary sinus augmentation has been shown to be a predictable treatment option for placing dental implants in areas of posterior maxilla with lack of sufficient residual alveolar bone height.1 The transalveolar (crestal) and the lateral window are the main techniques for the maxillary sinus augmentation with the goal of creating a space beneath the Schneiderian membrane in which to place various grafting materials in order to increase alveolar bone height.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Tooth extraction can lead to changes in the soft tissue ridge morphology, which could jeopardize prosthetically driven implant placement. However, studies that comprehensively analyze the outcomes of alveolar ridge preservation in terms of soft tissue contour changes after extracting periodontally compromised molars are lacking.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this prospective controlled clinical trial was to compare alveolar ridge preservation and natural healing in terms of soft tissue volumetric and linear contour changes in periodontally compromised molars 6 months after ext

OBJECTIVES: Alveolar bone resorption following tooth extraction poses a significant clinical challenge. While various ridge preservation techniques exist, limitations remain. Recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) delivered via an absorbable collagen sponge (ACS) has shown promise in bone augmentation. This pilot randomized controlled trial aimed to evaluate the efficacy of ACS combined with rhBMP-2 for alveolar ridge preservation in maintaining ridge dimensions after tooth extraction.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This pilot randomized controlled trial enrolled 11 participants wit
