The title compound, C(25)H(24)N(2)O(3) was prepared by the reaction of (Z)-2-(1H-indol-3-ylmethyl-ene)-1-aza-bicyclo-[2.2.2]octan-3-one with methyl p-(bromo-meth-yl)benzoate, under phase-transfer catalytic (PTC) conditions using triethyl-benzyl-ammonium chloride and 50% w/v aqueous NaOH solution in dichloro-methane. The crystal structure indicates the presence of a double bond with Z geometry connecting the aza-bicyclic and indole groups.

To assess the role of open-ocean ecosystems in global CO2 fixation, we investigated how picophytoplankton, which dominate primary production, responded to episodic increases in nutrient availability. The title compound, C(11)H(14)Cl(2)O, was synthesized by the reaction of a dichloro-methane solution of (R)-carvone and potassium tert-butano-late in the presence of a catalytic amount of benzyl-triethyl-ammonium chloride in chloro-form. The cyclo-hexene ring adopts a half-boat conformation. The cyclo-propyl ring is unsymmetrical, the shortest C-C bond being distal to the alkyl-substituted C atom. The crystal packing is stabilized only by van der Waals inter-actions.

Exposure of 20 volunteers to sodium chloride (NaCl) aerosol or to a mixture containing NaCl plus irritant particles (zinc ammonium sulfate) and irritant gases (nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide) produced no significant decrements in pulmonary function. There was a slight tendency for respiratory symptoms to be greater during the exposure to the mixture than during exposure to the NaCl aerosol alone; the differences were not statistically significant. The pollutant concentrations studied approximated worst-case ambient levels observed in the Los Angeles basin.

This study investigated the electrochemical oxidation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) using a Ti4O7 anode in centrate from sludge dewatering. Hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis is a complication of urinary diversion using ileum or colon. Its prevalence ranges from 25% and 46% depending on the procedure used and renal function of the patient.
