Anticoagulant therapy is effective and prevents death in more than 95% of patients with pulmonary embolism following deep vein thrombosis. We report a patient who developed deep vein thrombosis following rupture of a dissecting aneurysm of the internal auditory artery. The parent artery was occluded before anticoagulant therapy as a prophylactic measure to prevent intracranial haemorrhage. We discuss some of the clinical features, therapeutic difficulties, and pitfalls in the management of internal auditory artery aneurysm complicated by deep vein thrombosis.

ascular surgery is a challenging discipline and complex aneurysms can present an entire range of technical difficulties. To overcome these problems good technical skills are mandatory. However, it is also worth remembering a few basic rules: The simplest solution is often the best. All cases need careful planning, including that of the approach. A successful anastomosis requires good aortic tissue. Minimal dissection reduces morbidity.

Atrial septal aneurysm (ASA) has rarely been described in children. In this study, we evaluated the incidence and natural course of this anomaly in children. ASA was found in 30 patients (1%); 16 patients had type 1R and 14 patients had type 2L ASA. Twenty patients with ASA were followed: in four the ASA disappeared and in three patients with type 2L an atrial septal defect (ASD) developed during follow-up. BACKGROUND: Spontaneous bleeding into the joints is common in haemophilia. Recurrent intra-articular bleeding leads to joint destruction. In the past 4 years we have carried out sixteen total knee replacements for haemophilic arthropathy. A 48-year-old male harboring a rare peripheral superior cerebellar artery aneurysm presented with sudden severe headache. Neurological examination on admission revealed no deficit except stiff neck. The surgical treatment of intracranial aneurysms by clipping is recognized as effective and definitive. However some cases that suffered a new subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) some time after they were submitted to aneurysm clipping have raised doubts about the concept of "cure" after this treatment. Eleven patients previously submitted to aneurysm clipping who presented a new SAH were analyzed. The time elapsed from surgery to SAH varied from 3 to 10 years.
