Onychocola canadensis is a non-dermatophytic mould that has been associated with onychomycosis particularly in temperate climates. Until now, O. canadensis has been isolated from patients in Canada (14 cases), New Zealand (three), France (nine), UK (four) and Spain (two). We describe the first Italian case of onychomycosis caused by this fungus.

We report a case of otomycosis due to Scopulariopsis brevicaulis in a patient with left cholesteatomatous chronic otitis media who presented with otorrhea associated with left otalgia. Scopulariopsis brevicaulis is a fungus which is rarely described as causing otomycosis although it is a saprophyte and widespread in the environment. In this case the contamination could be due to intensive gardening with poor hygiene. Its mycologic diagnosis is relatively easy and nystatin remains the most effective treatment in this region.

We studied the effects of the invasion of Phlox paniculata L. and Ph. setacea L. by causative agents of the phlox powdery mildew (compatible combination) and lupine powdery mildew (incompatible combination) on the level of endogenous cytokinins and abscisic and salicylic acids. In all experimental variants, the level of zeatin-riboside and abscisic and salicylic acids in the leaves of invaded plants increased within 48 h. The highest level of phytohormones and salicylic acid was recorded in the absolutely resistant species Ph. setacea.

Citrus trees are among the most important fruit crops grown worldwide; however, they are also susceptible to numerous fungal plant pathogens. A range of symptoms, including melanosis, leaf and fruit spots, stem end rot, and twig blight, has been observed. The survey and collection were conducted from December 2021 to January 2022 in citrus orchards in northern Thailand. Araucaria heterophylla is a widely planted evergreen ornamental species in urban and coastal landscapes worldwide. Increasingly, these trees have been exhibiting stress symptoms, including canopy dieback, browning of foliage tips, defoliation, and reduced needle length. Pathogens that persist in an environmental reservoir can drive host populations to extinction because host abundance does not limit pathogen survival or reproduction. Fungal pathogens are of particular conservation concern because many fungi are generalists that persist in the environment. One example is Pseudogymnoascus destructans, the causative agent of white-nose syndrome (WNS), which has caused severe declines in hibernating bat populations across North America. Treatment of environmental reservoirs could help reduce transmission of P. destructans, and thus, reduce bat population declines
