In this work, the photooxidation of bisphenol A (BPA), a suspected endocrine disruptor (ED), in water in the presence of ferric and oxalate ions was investigated in a concentric reactor under a 125 W high-pressure mercury lamp (lambda> or = 365 nm). The photooxidation efficiencies were dependent on the pH values and ferric/oxalate concentration ratios (Fe(III)/Ox) in the water, with higher efficiency at pH 3.50+/-0.05 and Fe(III)/Ox 10.0/120.0 micromol l(-1). The initial rate of photooxidation increases with increasing the initial concentration of BPA from 2.0 to 5.0 mg l(-1) while do not chan

Exposure to estrogenic compounds during critical periods of fetal development could result in adverse effects on the development of reproductive organs that are not apparent until later in life. Bisphenol A (BPA), which is employed in the manufacture of a wide range of consumer products, is a prime candidate for endocrine disruption. We examined BPA to address the question of whether in utero exposure affects the uterus of the offspring and studied the expression and distribution of the estrogen receptors alpha (ERalpha) and beta (ERbeta), because estrogens influence the development, growth, a

Male Crj:Wistar rats, HsdHot:Holtzman SD rats, Crj:CD-1(ICR) mice and C57BL/6CrSlc mice were administered bisphenol A (BPA) in the diet at a level of 0 (control) and 0.25% for 8 weeks. Daily BPA intake was about 200 and 400 mg/kg for rats and mice, respectively. No conspicuous signs of general or reproductive toxicity were observed after administration in any strain of these animals. Serum testosterone concentrations were not decreased in BPA-fed rats and mice. Successive subcutaneous administration of BPA at a dose of 200 mg/kg/day for 4 weeks significantly decreased the testis, epididymis, p

This interpretive narrative review examines whether plant-derived bioactive compounds can modulate male germline epigenetic disruption induced by bisphenols and micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs), with emphasis on transgenerational reproductive risk within the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) framework. We synthesized mechanistic and experimental literature on bisphenol- and MNP-induced reproductive toxicity, sperm epigenetic regulation, and phytochemical-based intervention strategies. The evidence indicates that plastic-associated contaminants impair steroidogenesis, blood-test

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), such as bisphenols, parabens, and benzophenones, are commonly found in personal care products (PCPs) and pose a significant public health concern, particularly in adolescent girls. This study aimed to investigate the association between PCP use and urinary concentrations of environmental phenols in Korean adolescent girls, focusing on the potential role of PCPs as a major source of EDC exposure. A total of 112 female adolescents (aged 13-17 years) were recruited to examine the associations between urinary concentrations of parabens, bisphenols, benzopheno

Bisphenols, as a new class of environmental endocrine disruptors (EED), can interfere with the endocrine system of the human body and lead to various diseases. In this study, a novel polyaniline functionalized metal-organic framework (PANI@MIL-101@HF) was synthesized by utilizing hollow fibers (HF) as the the immobilization carrier, and combined with methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) for solid-liquid cooperative adsorption to determine bisphenols (BPs) in serum samples. The immobilized adsorbent exhibited excellent high stability and hydrophobicity. Furthermore, the inclusion of amino and benzene

Prenatal exposure to bisphenols and metals has raised significant concerns regarding their potential impact on fetal development, particularly the risk of fetal chromosome numerical abnormalities (CNA). In this case-control study, we analyzed bisphenol and metal concentrations in amniotic fluid of high-risk pregnant women undergoing amniocentesis. Concentrations of bisphenols and metals were measured using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, respectively. Logistic regression and quantile-based g-computation were app

The increasing global prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) has been hypothesized to be associated with maternal exposure to environmental chemicals. Here, among 420 women participating in the Alberta Pregnancy Outcomes and Nutrition (APrON) cohort study, we examined associations between GDM and second trimester blood or urine concentrations of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs): bisphenol-A (BPA), bisphenol-S (BPS), twelve phthalate metabolites, eight perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs), and eleven trace elements. Fifteen (3.57%) of the women were diagnosed with GDM, and associations

The purpose of this study was to establish a reliable, cost-effective, fast and simple method to quantify simultaneously both bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol B (BPB) in liquid food matrixes such as canned beverages (soft drinks and beers) and powdered infant formula using dispersive liquid-liquid micro-extraction (DLLME) with in-situ derivatisation coupled with heart-cutting gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). For the optimisation of the DLLME procedure different amounts of various extractive and dispersive solvents as well as different amounts of the derivative reagent were compared

Bisphenols (BPs) and parabens (PBs) are of great concern for environmental pollution and human health because of their endocrine-disrupting effects and potential health hazards. Urinary biomonitoring of BPs and PBs can provide basic data for human internal exposure evaluation, which is a prerequisite for accurately assessing their health risks. In this study, we developed a new pretreatment procedure based on solid supported liquid-liquid extraction (SLE) for the simultaneous separation of ten BPs and five PBs in human urine, followed by high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spect

Thyroid-disrupting chemicals (TDCs) have received increasing concerns because of their negative health impacts on both wildlife and humans. This study aimed to develop in vitro screening assays for TDCs based on thyroid hormone receptor β (TRβ) and transthyretin (TTR) proteins. Firstly, the recombinant ligand-binding domain of TRβ (TRβ-LBD) and TTR proteins of zebrafish were produced by eukaryotic expression system and then used as bio-recognition components to construct electrochemical biosensors. In the biosensors, the supported bilayer lipid membrane (s-BLM) was used as a matrix to immobili

Bisphenols (BPs) are potential thyroid disruptors that are widely used in many consumer products, leading to their widespread exposure in the general population. Current cross-sectional and case-control studies have found associations between exposure to BPs and serum thyroid function, but the results were contradictory. The objectives of this study are to describe demographic characteristics, BP exposure levels, and thyroid function measurements in potentially exposed and control districts and to investigate the association of urinary BPs with thyroid function. Data were collected from a gene

Bisphenol S (BPS), a primary substitute for bisphenol A, has led to widespread environmental exposure globally. However, the effects of BPS on spermatogenesis disruption (SD) remain contentious, and the underlying mechanisms responsible for SD induced by BPS are not fully understood. In this study, we employed a multidimensional computational strategy, integrating network toxicology, bioinformatics, systematic machine learning, single-cell analysis, and biomolecular modeling, to comprehensively elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which BPS induces SD. Our findings suggest that BPS may disrup

The mechanism of action of bisphenol A (BPA) in the myometrium has not been fully understood, which is why an attempt was made to determine the involvement of the key mechanisms (cholinergic, adrenergic and non-cholinergic/non-adrenergic) that regulate the uterine contractile activity in the relaxant effect of this BPA in cyclic gilts. Strips of myometrium were incubated for 15 min with the Krebs-Ringer solution (K-Rs), acetylcholine (ACh), atropine, epinephrine, phentolamine, bupranolol, sodium nitroprusside (SNP), methylene blue (MB) or N-ω-nitro L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride (L-NAME

The study investigates how bisphenol A (BPA) exposure may lead to obesity (OB) by identifying molecular mechanisms and suggests a new research approach for examining the health effects of chemical toxins. Researchers identified 237 potential targets associated with BPA exposure and OB using CTD, STITCH, DrugBank, GeneCards, and OMIM databases. Analysis with STRING and Cytoscape revealed 10 key targets, including INS, IL-6, AKT1, and PPARG. Enrichment analysis via the DAVID database indicated that these targets are primarily involved in PI3K-Akt and Insulin signaling pathways. These findings in
