There is no doubt that chloronaphthalenes (PCNs) and their brominated counterparts (PBNs) are dioxin-like compounds, but there is less evidence for mixed bromo/chloronaphthalenes (PXNs). In this article we review information relating to the dioxin-like potency of PCNs and PBNs obtained in vivo, in vitro, and in silico. This study reports the continuous 8-h monitoring of data on extremely low-frequency magnetic fields (ELF-MF) relating to 14 children and 35 teachers in 11 elementary schools in Northern Taiwan. A synthetic pyrethroid, cypermethrin, is licensed for use on fish farms to control sea lice infestations as a formulation called Excis. Lifetime "nose-only" inhalation studies were conducted in rats using four types of refractory ceramic fibers (FCF), 1 micron in diameter x 22 to 26 microns length: High Purity, Kaolin, Zirconia, and After-Service; and on hamsters using Kaolin RCF. Critical concentration of 'unbound' cadmium in the rabbit renal cortex was around 13 micrograms Cd/g, which was far lower than the critical concentration of 'total' cadmium in the renal cortex, 200-300 micrograms Cd/g, and a little lower than the critical concentration of non-MT-Cd in the renal cortex, 35-60 micrograms Cd/g, respectively. The above result may suggest that it is necessary to identify the chemical form of 'active' cadmium in the renal cortex.

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of Trypanosoma brucei on the expulsion of Hymenolepis diminuta in the mouse. The study showed that T. brucei given 8 days before infection with H. diminuta resulted in a significant delay in the expulsion of the H. diminuta worm burden. This finding is suggested to be due to the immunosuppressive effect of the trypanosome.
