Voice disorders are an important human health condition. Hydration is a commonly recommended preventive measure for voice disorders though it is unclear how vocal fold dehydration is harmful at the cellular level. Mechanisms aimed at recovering from heat-induced damage are closely associated with the organism's ability to survive extreme temperature exposure. In such a scenario, we show that autophagy, as a cytoprotective mechanism, ensures recovery and viability after induced heat stress in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a progressive, chronic, and highly disabling neuroinflammatory disorder characterized by demyelination and T cell-driven inflammation. The 60 kDa heat shock proteins (HSP 60) have been well conserved throughout evolution and are highly immunogenic. Cross-reactivity between bacterial and mammalian HSP 60 is considered a likely mechanism in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. INTRODUCTION: Neoehrlichia mikurensis is an emerging pathogen increasingly detected in ticks, animals, and humans. The study aimed to investigate the presence and phylogenetic diversity of Ixodes ricinus ticks in the Subcarpathian Region.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Of the 412 ticks collected from forest and meadow habitats, 240 specimens underwent molecular analysis for presence of N. mikurensis using microfluidic real-time PCR. Selected amplicons were sequenced to preform phylogenetic analysis of the groEL gene.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether mutations in different Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) genes result in different ocular phenotypes.
METHODS: Thirty-seven patients from 31 families were enrolled who met the clinical criteria for BBS and for whom a BBS mutation had been identified. Seventeen patients harbored mutations in BBS1, 10 in BBS10, and 10 in other genes (BBS2, BBS3, BBS5, BBS7, and BBS12). BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES: Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) is a genetically heterogeneous autosomal recessive disorder characterized by multiple organ defects involving retina, kidney, liver and brain. Disease-causing mutations in BBS genes narrowed down by homozygosity mapping in small consanguineous and non-consanguineous pedigrees were reported in 80 per cent of the study population. B-cell epitopes of the mycobacterial 65 kDa heat shock protein (HSP) were mapped in sera from patients with Behçet's Disease (BD).
