Metastatic Recurrent Breast Cancer Identified in the Chiropractic Office: Case Report and Literature Review.

BACKGROUND Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and the most common cause of spinal metastasis, and it may recur months to years after treatment. CASE REPORT A 41-year-old woman, recovered from breast cancer, presented to a chiropractor with acute-on-chronic 3-week history of low back pain radiating to the right leg. She had seen 2 providers previously; lumbar spondylosis had been diagnosed via radiography. Given her recent symptom progression and cancer history, the chiropractor ordered lumbar magnetic resonance imaging, revealing L5 vertebral marrow replacement, suggestive of met

The Chiropractic Vertebral Subluxation Part 4: New Perspectives and Theorists From 1916 to 1927.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this paper is to review and discuss the history of chiropractic vertebral subluxation (CVS) between the years 1916 and 1927. DISCUSSION: Theories during this period were shaped by many chiropractic school leaders and instructors. Unique contributions to theories during this period come primarily from 4 authors, John Craven, Jim Drain, Shelby Riley, and Ralph Stephenson. This period included the first thermographic instrumentation in chiropractic, which led to one of Craven's modifications of CVS theory. He also added to the literature about spinal cord pressure and d…

Authors, theorists, and technique developers during this time included B. J. Palmer, R. J. Watkins, Galen Price, John Hurley, Hugh Logan, Major Bertrand DeJarnette, Richard Van Rumpt, Roy Ashton, Joseph Janse, Henri Gillet, James Firth, and J. R. Verner. At least 8 p…

The Chiropractic Vertebral Subluxation Part 9: Complexes, Models, and Consensus From 1979 to 1995.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this paper is to review and discuss the history of chiropractic vertebral subluxation (CVS) between 1979 and 1995, with an emphasis on complexes, models, and consensus. DISCUSSION: New models were developed and critiqued during this period. The first subluxation complex model was proposed by Faye. Other theorists such as Lantz and Dishman built upon his model. The complex models were integrated into consensus statements by the International Chiropractic Association and the American Chiropractic Association, and later by profession-wide processes. The plurality of the…

Cerebral angiography showed a normal appearance of the vertebral artery, a cervical extradural origin of PICA, and a dissection of the latter at the C1-C2 level. INTERVENTION AND OUTCOME: Anticoagulant treatment with heparin was implemented. A positive outcome was achieved after

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: musings, observations and reflections after a half-century in chiropractic education.

The author reflects on experiences over a half-century of engagement in chiropractic education. Both positive and negative aspects of the profession's evolution are highlighted, including such areas as clinical education, diversity within chiropractic education, the importance of research, and the importance of gaining public trust through evidence-based practices. The paper concludes with a repeated call to action for the profession to be a major player in the solution to the global challenge of low back pain, which can be supported by integration with the healthcare-system-at-large as a trus…

This qualitative study aimed to explore Canadian chiropractors' experiences and perceptions in delivering care to equity-deserving groups and identify individual and institutional factors that may influence care delivery. METHODS: We utilized interpretive description for data development, sampling, collection, and analysis. Participants were recruited a

An investigation into the chiropractic practice and communication of routine repetitive radiographic imaging for the location of postural misalignments.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Many clinicians use radiological imaging in efforts to locate and diagnose the cause of their patient's pain, relying on X-rays as a leading tool in clinical evaluation. This is fundamentally flawed because an X-ray represents a "snapshot" of the structural appearance of the spine and gives no indication of the current function of the spine. The health and well-being of any system, including the spinal motion segments, depend on the inter-relationship between structure and function. Pain, tissue damage, and injury are not always directly correlated. Due to such a high incidence of abnormalitie

Neuroplastic Responses to Chiropractic Care: Broad Impacts on Pain, Mood, Sleep, and Quality of Life.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to elucidate the mechanisms of chiropractic care using resting electroencephalography (EEG), somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs), clinical health assessments (Fitbit), and Patient-reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS-29). METHODS: Seventy-six people with chronic low back pain (mean age ± SD: 45 ± 11 years, 33 female) were randomised into control (n = 38) and chiropractic (n = 38) groups. EEG and SEPs were collected pre and post the first intervention and post 4 weeks of intervention. PROMIS-29 was measured pre and post 4 weeks. Fitbit data w…

The Effect of Chiropractic Treatment on Limb Lameness and Concurrent Axial Skeleton Pain and Dysfunction in Horses.

Chiropractic care is a common treatment modality used in equine practice to manage back pain and stiffness but has limited evidence for treating lameness. The objective of this blinded, controlled clinical trial was to evaluate the effect of chiropractic treatment on chronic lameness and concurrent axial skeleton pain and dysfunction. Two groups of horses with multiple limb lameness (polo) or isolated hind limb lameness (Quarter Horses) were enrolled. Outcome measures included subjective and objective measures of lameness, spinal pain and stiffness, epaxial muscle hypertonicity, and mechanical…
