Sarcoidosis is seldom associated with Waldenström's macroglobulinaemia. We report the case of a 58-year old woman, 7 years after cutaneous and pulmonary sarcoidosis had begun, developed Waldenström's macroglobulinaemia. Chlorambucil was effective on both diseases. The possibility of reactive sarcoidotic granulomas in neoplastic diseases may cast doubts on the reality of the sarcoidosis-malignant haemopathy association. However, most authors consider that such associations are not fortuitous and can be explained by the immunological abnormalities observed in patients with sarcoidosis.

Chylothorax secondary to chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) was diagnosed in a feline leukemia virus (FeLV)-positive 8-year-old castrated male domestic shorthair feline. The leukemia resolved following therapy with chlorambucil, prednisone, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and lomustine. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of CLL in an FeLV-positive cat. Although a causative relationship cannot be proven, patients diagnosed with either disease may benefit from diagnostics to rule out the presence of the other concurrent condition.

A restricted polyclonal or biclonal gammopathy resulting in bleeding tendencies was diagnosed in a young, neutered male English bulldog with concurrent splenomegaly, anemia, and severe elevations in IgM and, to a lesser degree, IgA immunoglobulins. Primary urethral lymphoma is a rare entity without a standardized treatment protocol. We report a case of an elderly woman presenting with a caruncle associated with vaginal spotting and intermittent dysuria. She underwent surgical excision of the lesion. Histological analysis revealed a blastoid variant of mantle cell lymphoma, a previously unreported subtype. The patient received chlorambucil assisting a rapid local disease progression. She died of disseminated disease 6 months after diagnosis. A review of the lymphomas of the urethra is included.

A report is presented on an 83-year-old female patient with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis who developed a necrotizing scleritis of the right eye. The clinical course could not be influenced by indomethacin, cysteine, and the cytostatic chlorambucil. Local cyclosporin treatment, however, which was initiated after a 4-week therapy-free period, led to considerable improvement within a few days. The disease disappeared after 6 weeks of treatment. There is no recurrence as yet, the follow-up period being 13 months.

A woman, now 59 has been followed for 13 years with several manifestations of Behçet's disease. These were aphthous stomatitis, genital ulcers, uveitis causing blindness, recurrent erythema nodosum, and synovitis. In 1970 a poorly differentiated diffuse lymphocytic lymphoma appeared and was treated with radiotherapy. In 1976 she developed a mixed cryoglobulinemia and an immune complex mediated vasculitis manifested by purpura and neuropathy which improved on prednisone and chlorambucil therapy. The subsequent course of her lymphoproliferative disorder suggest that it was in fact benign.

We report a case of a 75-year-old male with indolent chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) for 8 years, who presented with a 6-month history of a painful, zosteriform eruption in a T3-4 distribution that evolved into an unusual crop of papular nodules. Upon biopsy and immunostaining of these lesions CLL was proven consistent with leukaemia cutis related to varicella-zoster virus reactivation. In the absence of other treatment indices, he was commenced on chlorambucil with successful resolution of both his pain and the lesions.

A mast cell tumor in the mandibular salivary gland was diagnosed in a 9-year-old English Setter. Dense infiltrating sheets of mast cells were present within the mandibular salivary gland, the medial retropharyngeal lymph node and in two subcutaneous masses on the flank. The salivary gland, lymph node, and masses were excised. The dog was treated postoperatively with the histamine receptor antagonist, cimetidine and the alkylating agent, chlorambucil. The tumor recurred at the angle of the mandible 4 months later and the dog was killed.

18 patients with acute non-lymphocytic leukaemia were treated with Prednimustine, a chlorambucil ester of prednisolone, as a single drug. 5 patients responded with falling blast counts in peripheral blood, but only 1 obtained a complete remission of 3 months' duration. Since the activity of Prednimustine is lower than that of other commonly used drugs in acute non-lymphocytic leukaemia, future studies should concentrate on other aspects, such as treatment of patients with steroid receptor-positive blast cells or other types of leukaemia.
