We report a boy with bilateral, familial retinoblastoma recognized at the age of 3 months. At the age of 2 1/2 years the patient developed a tumour in the pineal region. Both tumours were successfully treated by radiation. The chromosomes were normal when examined by the prophase technique, in particular there was no deletion of band q14 of chromosome 13. We consider the simultaneous occurrence of retinoblastoma and pinealoma as more then a pure coincidence, probably a consequence of a generally increased susceptibility to cancer and of the histogenetic similarities of retina and pineal body.

Meiotic chromosomes from four boys treated with combination chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia were analysed ultrastructurally by serial sectioning and reconstruction of spermatocyte chromosomes. Cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca irus) received daily doses of 1 or 5 mg of lead for a period of 12 months. Samples of venous blood were taken at 0, 7, 9 and 12 months, and cultured lymphocytes were analysed for the presence of chromosome aberrations. A few severe chromosome aberrations, such as dicentrics or translocations, appeared in the control animals as well as in the lead-treated ones, during the course of the experiment. However, lead treatment increased significantly the frequency of chromosome and chromatid gaps, and this result is in agreement with other previous results.

Low levels of X-ray exposure of mouse palatal epithelial cell cultures resulted in increased numbers of chromosomal aberrations. At the lowest level used (IR), aberrations occurred of the type produced by two breaks such as chromatid exchanges, dicentrics, and metacentrics.

Chromosomes from a patient with mycosis fungoides were examined in detail with banding techniques. Hyperdiploid cells from a lymph node had common anomalies of certain chromosomes which formed three similar clones. Chromosome banding patterns were obtained for 50 of 55 consecutive adult patients with acute nonlymphocytic leukemia during a 5-yr period. Twenty-two of the 50 cases were diagnosed as acute myelocytic leukemia (AML), 24 as acute myelomonocytic leukemia (AMMol), 2 as acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), and 2 as erythroleukemia.
