Clinical Outcomes of Collagenase Injections in Management of Dupuytren Contracture of the Proximal Interphalangeal Joint.

PURPOSE: Dupuytren contracture is characterized by the formation of cords and nodules in the palm. Surgical release has historically been the definitive treatment. Collagenase clostridium histolyticum (CCH) has been used successfully as an alternative to surgery. The treatment of proximal interphalangeal (PIP) contractures is the most challenging. The purpose of this study was to evaluate CCH treatment for Dupuytren contracture of the PIP joint. METHODS: A retrospective chart review was performed for CCH treatment of Dupuytren contracture at a single institution from January 2010 to April 202

Therapy for Dupuytren's Disease: Collagenase Therapy-A Long-Term Follow-Up Study.

BACKGROUND: Dupuytren's disease (DD) is a systemic connective tissue disorder of the palm. It particularly affects men of Northern European or Caucasian origin over the age of 55. In addition to the classical surgical therapy via limited fasciectomy, Dupuytren's contracture can also be treated minimally invasively. A relatively new treatment method is the use of collagenase injections (Xiapex) to reduce the contracture of the fingers. The data regarding the long-term success of this therapy are currently limited. METHODS: In this monocentric retrospective study, we examined 35 patients who we

Influence of estradiol treatment on bone marrow cell differentiation in collagenase-induced arthritis.

OBJECTIVE AND DESIGN: Estrogen is one of the important regulators of the balance between bone formation and bone resorption that can modulate the levels and activity of certain growth factors and cytokines. In this study, we investigated the effect of 17β-estradiol (ED) on bone marrow (BM) cell differentiation in vivo and ex vivo in a mouse model of collagenase-induced osteoarthritis (CIOA). SUBJECT: ICR (CD-2) female mice were used in present experiments (total number = 75) and bone marrow cells were used for in vitro studies. TREATMENT: Mice were orally fed under different schemes with 17β

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum for the treatment of Peyronie's disease: a prospective Italian multicentric study.

Peyronie's disease (PD) is a common condition which results in penile curvature making sexual intercourse difficult or impossible. Collagenase clostridium histolyticum (CCH) is the first licensed drug for the treatment of PD and is indicated in patients with palpable plaque and curvature deformity of at least 30° of curvature. However, only few monocentric studies are available in the current literature and this is the first national multicentric study focusing on this new treatment. In five Italian centres, 135 patients have completed the treatment with three injections of CCH using Ralph's s

Anesthesia for collagenase clostridium histolyticum injection in patients with dupuytren disease: A cohort analysis.

Procedural pain is one of the most common adverse effects reported by patients with Dupuytren disease (DD) treated with collagenase clostridium histolyticum (CCH). The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of wrist block before CCH injection in reducing procedural pain and to analyze its impact on adverse effects. We performed a prospective, single-center study in which we compared two groups of patients in a consecutive cohort. In the first group (NO-BLOCK), wrist block was only performed before finger extension, whereas in the second group (BLOCK), it was performed before CCH inj

Comparative cost and clinical effectiveness of clostridial collagenase ointment for chronic dermal ulcers.

Chronic dermal ulcers affect approximately 2.4-4.5 million people in the USA and are associated with loss of function, decreased quality of life and significant economic burden. Debridement is a critical component of wound care involving removal of nonviable tissue from chronic wounds to stimulate the granulation and epithelialization process. Clostridial collagenase ointment has been used as a method of wound debridement for more than 50 years and is currently the only enzymatic debriding ointment with US FDA approval. This review discusses the results of recent real-world studies that build

[Collagenase clostridium histolyticum for Peyronie's disease: A new minimally invasive and effective treatment].

The treatment of Peyronie's disease has been a challenge to urologists, as most of the current oral medications are considered hardly valid and the rest of the therapies require strict control of indications, some of which remain controversial, while the final surgical option may be associated with complications such as penile shortening or erectile dysfunction. Collagenase clostridium histolyticum has been proved to be effective in dissolving the penile cavernosal plaque and approved by the Food and Drug Administration of the USA as the first drug to be used for the treatment of Peyronie's di
