Immunological cross-reaction between an Onchocerca paramyosin-like molecule and a microfilaria surface antigen.

A monoclonal antibody (2A5B9), previously shown to be reactive with a 14 kD surface associated antigen of Onchocerca microfilariae, was found to recognise a 92 kD molecule present in an adult worm extract. The antibody was used to select cDNA clones with a coding capacity larger than 14 kD, from a lambda gt11 library of O. volvulus. Nucleotide sequencing of the cDNA of one such clone revealed extensive homology to the myosin (unc-54) and paramyosin (unc-15) genes of Caenorhabditis elegans, similarly to myosin and paramyosin genes of Onchocerca volvulus, Brugia malayi, Dirofilaria immitis and S

A study of immunological cross-reaction between Yersinia enterocolitica 0:9 and Brucella abortus.

In this paper, the immunological cross-reaction between Yersinia enterocolitica 0:9 (Y-9) and Brucella abortus has been studied with the following results: It has been demonstrated that serological cross-reaction exists between the organisms and the agglutination titer of Y-9 antigen and anti-Brucella human sera is lower than that between Brucella antigen and Yersinia anti-sera. Y-9 antigen can only be agglutinated by Brucella monospecific serum "A", but not by serum "M" or "R". 24-48 hours after the injection of Y-9 antigen either in the form of whole cells or purified protein, a clear skin c

Evidence for immunological cross-reaction between sporozoites and blood stages of a human malaria parasite.

Malaria parasites (Plasmodium spp.) show a complex pattern of development in the mammalian host and many studies support the view that the surface of the sporozoite, injected by the mosquito, has no antigens in common with the erythrocytic stage of development. For example, immunization with the erythrocytic parasites generates antisera with negligible titre by indirect immunofluorescence to the sporozoite surface. Although monoclonal antibodies prepared against erythrocytic stages were reported to show cross-reaction to the sporozoite stage, this appeared to be due to cytoplasmic antigens exp

Protein cross-match test for the diagnosis and prevention of reactions after the transfusion of blood and cryoprecipitate.

The examination by means of counterimmunoelectrophoresis for protein incompatibility of the serum of 62 patients who developed an allergic or pyretic post-transfusion reaction revealed incompatibility in 23 cases (37.2%). It was due to the presence of antibodies in 8 recipients (34.8%) and in 15 blood donors (65.2%). The incidence was significantly higher than in a control group of transfused patients who did not develop a reaction. In this group protein incompatibility was found in only 14.7%, 80% of which was due to antibodies in the recipient. In 13 (56.5%) of the patients with reactions ag

Tests for penicillin allergy in man. II. The immunological cross-reaction between penicillins and cephalosporins.

The immunological cross-reaction between penicillins and a cephalosporin derivative (cephaloridine CEPR) has been investigated. Cross-allergenicity was studied in twenty-four patients with established penicillin allergy using a variety of tests. Skin tests, quantitative leucocyte challenge (estimating histamine release by allergen) and lymphocyte stimulation (transformation) tests were performed, using CEPR, conjugates of CEPR with human serum albumin (HSA) and bovine gamma-globulin (BGG), benzylpenicillin and benzylpenicilloyl (BPO) conjugates with HSA and BGG. A cross-reaction was clearly es

Evaluation of severe adverse cutaneous drug reactions in patients admitted to tertiary care center: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Adverse cutaneous drug reactions (ACDRs) are common and potentially life-threatening, while also hindering patient compliance to medications. Given the regional differences in patterns and prevalence of ACDRs, it is important to study the epidemiology, as well as the clinical and outcome patterns of patients with ACDRs in Iran. METHODS: This cross-sectional study on ACDRs was conducted among hospitalized patients in a referral university hospital in the city of Isfahan, Iran. The patients' demographics, clinical information, and outcomes, including age, gender, past medic

Synthesis of 3-aryl-2-phosphinoimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine ligands for use in palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions.

3-Aryl-2-phosphinoimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine ligands were synthesized from 2-aminopyridine via two complementary routes. The first synthetic route involves the copper-catalyzed iodine-mediated cyclizations of 2-aminopyridine with arylacetylenes followed by palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions with phosphines. The second synthetic route requires the preparation of 2,3-diiodoimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine or 2-iodo-3-bromoimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine from 2-aminopyridine followed by palladium-catalyzed Suzuki/phosphination or a phosphination/Suzuki cross-coupling reactions sequence, respectively. A Revised Modular Approach to (-)-trans-Δ8-THC and Derivatives Through Late-Stage Suzuki-Miyaura Cross-Coupling Reactions.

A revised modular approach to various synthetic (-)-trans-Δ8-THC derivatives through late-stage Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions is disclosed. Ten derivatives were synthesized allowing both sp2- and sp3-hybridized cross-coupling partners with minimal β-hydride elimination. Importantly, we demonstrate that a para-bromo-substituted THC scaffold for Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions has been initially reported incorrectly in recent literature.

Identification of neutralizing epitopes on Pseudomonas aeruginosa elastase and effects of cross-reactions on other thermolysin-like proteases.

Monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) to a Burkholderia (Pseudomonas) cepacia 36-kDa protease (PSCP) which neutralize PSCP and Pseudomonas aeruginosa elastase but not P. aeruginosa alkaline protease have been isolated (C. Kooi et al., Infect. Immun. 62:2811-2817, 1994). These MAbs, designated 36-6-6 and 36-6-8, react with N-chlorosuccinimide cleavage products of P. aeruginosa elastase, consistent with the recognition of a 13.9-kDa fragment which contains the active site. Overlapping 9-mer peptides that span this region were synthesized. Neutralizing MAbs to PSCP reacted strongly with two peptides (341H

Mechanism of allergic cross-reactions--I. Multispecific binding of ligands to a mouse monoclonal anti-DNP IgE antibody.

A recently developed solid-phase binding assay was used to investigate the specificity of ligand binding to a mouse monoclonal anti-dinitrophenyl IgE [IgE(aDNP)]. All DNP-amino acids, that were tested, inhibited the binding of radio-labeled IgE(aDNP) to DNP covalently attached to polystyrene microtiter plates; however, the concentration for 50% inhibition varied within four orders of magnitude, DNP-L-serine being the most, DNP-proline the least potent inhibitor. In addition to DNP analogues a large number (2074) of drugs and other compounds were tested for their ability to compete with DNP for

A Simple Microfluidic Device to Mitigate the Effect of Faradaic Reactions in Cross-Stream Particle Migration in DC-Electrokinetics.

Direct-current (DC) electrokinetics in microfluidic channels is inherently affected by Faradaic reactions at the electrode-electrolyte interfaces, which induce local changes in pH and conductivity and, consequently, alter particle behavior. In this work, we present a simple microfluidic T-junction device designed to mitigate these effects by continuously flushing the regions near the electrodes with fresh electrolyte, thereby preserving the physicochemical properties of the main channel. Using fluorescence imaging with a pH-sensitive dye and electrical resistance measurements, we demonstrate t

Impact of adverse reactions to first-generation antipsychotics on treatment adherence in outpatients with schizophrenia: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Antipsychotics are well-known to cause potentially serious and life-threatening adverse drug reactions (ADRs) that have been reported to be also one of the major reasons for non-adherence. In Eritrea, shortage of psychiatrists and physicians, inadequacy of laboratory setups and unavailability of second-generation antipsychotics in the national list of medicines would seem to amplify the problem. This study's objective is to determine the impact of adverse effects of first-generation antipsychotics on treatment adherence in outpatients with schizophrenia at Saint Mary Neuro-Psychiat
