Intravenous pulse cyclophosphamide (IPC) was used to treat lupus interstitial lung disease in 2 patients. Vital capacity increased by 67-110% of baseline values with IPC treatment. Total lung capacity and diffusing capacity also improved. Dyspnea and other manifestations of lupus improved dramatically. This is the first report documenting the efficacy of the early use of IPC for acute and chronic interstitial lung disease associated with lupus.

Sterile hemorrhagic cystitis developed in 5 dogs after treatment with cyclophosphamide. Cyclophosphamide is a well established cytotoxic drug used in the treatment of lymphoproliferative disorders, certain solid tumors, and nonneoplastic disorders such as the nephrotic syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis. Hemorrhagic cystitis can be a complication of this drug in from 2% to 40% of patients so treated. At times, the hemorrhage may be severe, protracted, and life-threatening. Cyclophosphamide therapy has also been implicated as the causative agent in 32 cases of carcinoma of the bladder and three cases of carcinoma of the renal pelvis.

We report the history of a patient, who had recurrent patches of erythema on the trunk and extremities for some years. The diagnosis of erythema elevatum diutinum or annulare centrifugum was discussed. The patient developed a monoclonal IgA lambda fraction and clinical signs of myeloma.
