Calcium Silicate-Based Cements in Restorative Dentistry: Vital Pulp Therapy Clinical, Radiographic, and Histological Outcomes on Deciduous and Permanent Dentition-A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Vital pulp therapy aims to preserve the vitality of dental pulp exposed due to caries, trauma, or restorative procedures. The aim of the present review was to evaluate the clinical, radiographic, and histological outcomes of different calcium silicate-based cements used in vital pulp therapy for both primary and permanent teeth. The review included 40 randomized controlled trials from a search across PubMed, LILACS, and the Cochrane Collaboration, as well as manual searches and author inquiries according to specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. A critical assessment of studies was conduct

Rapid Palatal Expansion in the absence of posterior cross-bite to intercept maxillary incisor crowding in the mixed dentition: a CBCT evaluation of spontaneous changes of untouched permanent molars.

AIM: The aim of this study was to investigate the reaction of untouched permanent molars following RPE, anchored on deciduous teeth in the early mixed dentition, aimed to solve maxillary anterior crowding in the absence of posterior cross-bite. METHODS: A prospective clinical trial comprised 35 consecutive patients (20 males and 15 females) treated by the same orthodontist (MR). All patients showed crowding of the upper permanent incisors in the early mixed dentition in the absence of posterior cross-bite. RPE was anchored on second deciduous molars and on the deciduous canines. CBCT was take

Multicentre retrospective study on plate osteosynthesis for non-condylar mandibular fractures in paediatric patients with deciduous, mixed, and permanent dentition: A World Oral Maxillofacial Trauma (WORMAT) project.

Mandibular fractures are common maxillofacial injuries among children and adolescents, but treatment remains controversial. The aim of this study was to analyse the methods and outcomes of open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) for non-condylar mandibular fractures in paediatric patients among 14 maxillofacial centres. Patients ≤16 years of age undergoing ORIF for non-condylar mandibular fractures between 2011 and 2022 were included. Age, gender, dentition stage, site and type of fracture, surgical approach, material, thickness, and number of plates, and outcome were recorded. 179 patient

Age-Stratified Association Between CPI Screening Categories and Caries Experience in the Permanent Dentition of Children and Adolescents from Southwest Romania: A Multicenter Cross-Sectional Clinical Study.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Dental caries and gingival inflammation share several biofilm-related determinants. This study evaluated the association between Community Periodontal Index (CPI) screening categories and permanent-dentition caries experience in a consecutively recruited clinical sample of children and adolescents from Southwest Romania. METHODS: The multicenter cross-sectional study included 638 participants aged 6-19 years, analyzed as 6-12 years (n = 407) and 13-19 years (n = 231). Analyses included nonparametric comparisons, adjusted Poisson models, a formal CPI-by-age-stratum inter

Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies on the Most Commonly Missing Permanent Dentition (Excluding the Third Molars) in Non-Syndromic Dental Patients or Randomly-Selected Subjects, and the Factors Affecting the Observed Rates.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to summarize the literature on the most frequently missing permanent teeth excluding the third molars. STUDY DESIGN: A search was conducted to find all the available literature (in various scientific and general databases) regarding the most commonly missing teeth with respect to ethnicity and time, as well as factors biasing this outcome. Quality assessment was done to exclude studies with inconsistent information, poor designs, or data pertaining to syndromic cases or the third molars. The role of biasing factors was as well quantitatively assessed using s

Hyperdontia in children below four years of age: a radiographic study.

Sixty-six children (forty-one boys and twenty-five girls) were evaluated for differences in characteristics of premaxillary hyperdontia between the primary and permanent dentitions. The study population had forty-five supernumerary teeth in their primary dentitions and fifty supernumerary teeth in their permanent dentitions. Eighty percent of the primary supernumerary teeth were located in the lateral incisor regions, in proper alignment within the dental arch. Sixty-two percent of the supernumerary teeth in the permanent dentitions were situated in the central incisor regions; 90 percent were

Interventions for the management of external root resorption.

BACKGROUND: External root resorption is a pathological process which tends to occur following a wide range of mechanical or chemical stimuli such as infection, pressure, trauma or orthodontic tooth movement. Although it is predominantly detected by radiography, in some cases, root resorption may be identified by clinical symptoms i.e. pain, swelling and mobility of the tooth. Treatment alternatives are case-dependant and aim at the removal of the cause and the regeneration of the resorptive lesion. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effectiveness of any interventions that can be used in the manageme

Orthodontic treatment of a non-syndromic patient with congenital agenesis of multiple permanent teeth: a rare case.

This article presents the first stage of treatment, respectively the orthodontic management of a non-syndromic, 13-year-old patient, with multiple and asymmetric missing teeth. The difficulty of the case was increased by the association of an impacted premolar and also by the loss, due to extended caries, of three of the first permanent molars. The patient came from a rural area, where access to dental treatment was limited. His parents realized too late that the child had significant damage to his permanent first molars, that he was no longer eating properly and that he had spaces between tee

Changes in the Distribution of Periodontal Nerve Fibers during Dentition Transition in the Cat.

The periodontal ligament has a rich sensory nerve supply which originates from the trigeminal ganglion and trigeminal mesencephalic nucleus. Although various types of mechanoreceptors have been reported in the periodontal ligament, the Ruffini ending is an essential one. It is unknown whether the distribution of periodontal nerve fibers in deciduous teeth is identical to that in permanent teeth or not. Moreover, morphological changes in the distribution of periodontal nerve fibers during resorption of deciduous teeth and eruption of successional permanent teeth in diphyodont animals have not b

Mandibular lateral incisor-first premolar transposition in early mixed dentition: a rare case.

Dental transposition is an anomaly of eruption which is usually seen in the maxilla and rarely in the mandible. The mandibular lateral incisor's transposition with the permanent canine has a prevalence of less than 0.03%. The following case presents an even rarer situation, of a right lateral mandibular incisor that erupted in the place of the first premolar, in transposition with the temporary canine. In the first phase, a series of extractions have been performed, to ensure the necessary free space for moving the lateral incisor closer to its appropriate place, and after that a fixed orthodo

An Orthodontic Approach for Garre's Sclerosing Osteomyelitis of the Mandible.

The nonsuppurative osteomyelitis of the mandible is a rare condition that can occur in children due to low-grade inflammatory processes, dental cavities, periodontal lesions as well as the eruption process of the teeth. We submit a case report involving the orthodontic management of a 9-year-old female patient who presented in our service in the mixed dentition period with diagnosed Garre's sclerosing osteomyelitis of the entire mandibular body. After a full work-up, the following symptoms and signs were noted: bilateral temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain, loss of the leeway space, anterior op

Size estimation of unerupted canines and premolars using various independent variables: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Prediction of unerupted permanent teeth is an essential part of orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. This prediction is done by mixed dentition space analysis based on the estimation of mesiodistal dimensions of unerupted permanent canine and premolars from already erupted permanent teeth. Permanent mandibular incisors are most commonly used for prediction. Recent literature reveals that mandibular incisors are not accurate predictors and other independent variables have been introduced to make a more accurate and precise prediction. The objective of this paper was to ev
