Microanatomical findings with relevance to trigeminal ganglion enhancement on post-contrast T1-weighted magnetic resonance images in dogs.

INTRODUCTION: Trigeminal ganglion contrast enhancement (TGCE) is reported to be a normal and a common finding on magnetic resonance imaging studies of dogs, cats and humans. The intent of the present study was to describe the anatomical characteristics of the trigeminal ganglion, its surrounding structures, and histological features that are relevant to explain or hypothesize on the reason for TGCE on T1-weighted post-contrast MRI studies of the brain in dogs. METHODS: Eight dog cadavers were dissected to study the anatomy of the trigeminal ganglion. The presence and anatomy of vessels was st

Use of Hisense Computer-Assisted Surgery System Enhances Infrapyloric Lymph Node Dissection for Gastric Cancer.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to establish a three-dimensional model of infrapyloric vessels using the Hisense computer-assisted surgery (CAS) system before the operation to understand blood vessel variation types and determine the group 6 lymph node (LN) metastasis status. METHODS: One hundred and four gastric cancer patients were randomly assigned to a CAS group and a computed tomography (CT) group. Intraoperative and postoperative complications in the two groups were recorded. The number of group 6 LNs dissected and the metastasis status were compared between the groups. The independent ris

A case report of multiple cervical artery dissection after peripheral type facial palsy and use of steroids.

BACKGROUND: Cervical artery dissection is one of the most important causes of ischemic stroke in young age patients. However, multiple cervical artery dissection simultaneously involving the anterior and posterior circulation is uncommon. Here, we would like to report a case of a patient with bilateral vertebral artery (VA) and internal carotid artery dissection (ICA) after a use of systemic steroid due to peripheral facial palsy. CASE PRESENTATION: A 44-year-old man with hypertension visited emergency department due to recurrent vertigo. He was receiving methyl prednisolone for two weeks for

Flapping of the dissected intima in a case of traumatic carotid artery dissection in a jackhammer worker.

We present the sonographic finding of flapping of the dissected intima inside the carotid artery in a 48-year-old man who suffered an acute stroke after vigorous use of a jackhammer. The dissected intima was seen to flap inside the lumen regularly and in synchrony with the vessel's pulse. There was no distal segmental stenosis. The extracranial blood flow velocities were within normal limits and transcranial Doppler examination did not reveal any velocity alteration.

Left subclavian artery dissection associated with connective tissue abnormalities resembling Marfan-like syndrome in an English bulldog.

The unexpected demise of a 12-year-old male neutered English bulldog solicited a gross examination, which revealed a blood-filled space occurring in the proximal left subclavian artery (LSA). It originated about 1 cm from the branching point of the vessel and progressively dilated for 3 cm distal to this origin. Histopathological investigation showed that the tunica media of the LSA was more than 50% split, with the blood-filled space dissecting through the arterial wall. In the tunica media of the LSA, severe multifocal fragmentation and/or loss of the elastic fibers was observed. The retaine

Intraoperative Indocyanine Green Imaging for the Evaluation of Blood Perfusion Area in Cancer of the Splenic Flexure With an Occluded Inferior Mesenteric Artery: A Report of Two Cases.

Radical resection for cancer of the splenic flexure requires careful consideration of the dissection line so that blood flow in the remnant bowel is maintained, particularly when the root of the inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) is already occluded. Intraoperative indocyanine green (ICG) imaging is a promising method for evaluating blood perfusion of organs and vessels. However, there are few reports on the use of ICG to determine the dissection line in patients with altered blood flow. In this article, we describe two cases of successful resection of splenic flexure cancer (SFC) in patients wi

Dissecting Aneurysm in Cervical Artery Dissection: Insights From the STOP-CAD Study.

BACKGROUND: Cervical artery dissection (CeAD) may result in dissecting aneurysm (DA) formation. We aimed to characterize risk factors and clinical outcomes associated with DA in a large, international CeAD cohort. METHODS: We performed a secondary analysis of STOP-CAD (Antithrombotic Treatment for Stroke Prevention in Cervical Artery Dissection), an international, multicenter, retrospective cohort. Patients with spontaneous CeAD were assessed for DA at baseline and de novo DA formation. Significant covariates in univariable analysis were included in multivariable regression models aiming to i

[Pseudoaneurysm Arose from the Side Branch of Vascular Graft after Thoracic Aortic Replacement].

The patient is a 52-year-old man. He underwent ascending aortic replacement for acute aortic dissection 21 years ago and aortic root replacement 15 years ago. During postoperative follow up, a pseudoaneurysm of the ascending aorta was found. Cause of the pseudoaneurysm was supposed to be injury of the anastomotic site by a sternal wire. Since the pseudoaneurysm was enlarging, operation was indicated. Incising the pseudoaneurysm, we did not find silk threads that were used for ligation of the side branch of the vascular graft, and there was bleeding from the side branch. It is reported that sil

Abdominal endograft collapse due to acute type A aortic dissection.

Endovascular repair (EVAR) for abdominal aortic aneurysm and iliac aneurysm is a safe and valid treatment. However, it is associated with some different complications that may require reinterventions. Among these complications, abdominal endograft proximal collapse is an infrequent event. We report a case of acute type A aortic dissection and abdominal endograft proximal collapse in a patient previously treated with EVAR.

Management options for large fenestrations between true and false lumens in aortic dissection.

Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) has become the cornerstone surgical operation of choice for treatment of type B aortic dissection (TBAD), especially in acute and subacute phases. The primary goal of TEVAR in these situations to seal proximal entry tear in the aortic dissection to promote false lumen thrombosis, prevent aneurysmal degeneration and rupture. In patients with large fenestrations between the true and false lumen in the perivisceral aorta, false lumen may still be perfused via retrograde flow from the fenestrations. As a result, complete FL thrombosis is achieved in only

Redo aortic arch repair using trifurcated hybrid prosthesis after failed Ascyrus medical dissection stent treatment.

BACKGROUND: The management of acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) using the Ascyrus Medical Dissection Stent (AMDS) can lead to complications due to the persistence of the false lumen (FL). This case report presents two instances of failed AMDS treatment for ATAAD, highlighting the novel use of a trifurcated hybrid prosthesis for redo aortic arch repair using a minimally invasive frozen elephant trunk (FET) technique. CASE PRESENTATION: Case 1: A 57-year-old male, previously treated with AMDS for ATAAD, presented with an enlarging aortic arch and persistent FL two years post-surgery caused

Urgent hybrid repair of a symptomatic dissection-related type II thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm.

Emergency repair of type II thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms is burdened by high perioperative morbidity and mortality. We report the case of a symptomatic type II post-dissection thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm that was treated using a hybrid technique. The repair was carried out in 2 stages. In the first stage, we deployed 2 imbricated stent grafts in the descending thoracic aorta. A left carotid-to-left subclavian artery bypass was pre-emptively performed to obtain a proper proximal landing zone and as part of the manoeuvres to protect the spinal cord. The endovascular first stage was eff

Endovascular repair in type A aortic dissection: Anatomical candidacy for currently manufactured stent grafts and conceptual valve-carrying devices for an Endo-Bentall procedure.

OBJECTIVES: Endovascular treatment has been suggested as an alternative for open surgery for type A aortic dissection, but current devices have severe anatomical limitations. This study assesses the computed tomography-based anatomical suitability of currently manufactured stent grafts as well as 2 embodiments of valve-carrying devices. METHODS: In a retrospective single-centre cohort of 200 consecutive ascending/arch operations between 2009 and 2018, a total of 112 patients with type A aortic dissections were identified and evaluated for endovascular candidacy based on the locations of the e
