Implementation and Postoperative Management of Continuous Adductor Canal Catheters for Total Knee Arthroplasty to Reduce Surgical Backlog Related to the COVID-19 Pandemic: An Acute Pain Service Nursing Perspective and Educational Resource.

PURPOSE: In response to the surgical backlog created by the COVID-19 pandemic and to spare valuable hospital resources, we developed and implemented a continuous adductor canal catheter (CACC) program for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients. CACC's offer superior analgesia, decrease opioid use, and increase patient satisfaction while simultaneously promoting a decreased length of hospital stay and even same day discharges. The implementation of analgesia protocols using continuous peripheral nerve catheters and isometric pumps has been described for other surgical procedures and populations

Feasibility of the Web-Based Intervention Designed to Educate and Improve Adherence Through Learning to Use Continuous Glucose Monitor (IDEAL CGM) Training and Follow-Up Support Intervention: Randomized Controlled Pilot Study.

BACKGROUND: Proper training and follow-up for patients new to continuous glucose monitor (CGM) use are required to maintain adherence and achieve diabetes-related outcomes. However, CGM training is hampered by the lack of evidence-based standards and poor reimbursement. We hypothesized that web-based CGM training and education would be effective and could be provided with minimal burden to the health care team. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to perform a pilot feasibility study testing a theory-driven, web-based intervention designed to provide extended training and follow-up support to

[How does the surgical society (DGAV) support the continuing medical training in general and visceral surgery?].

The medical councils (Ärztekammern) develop the contents of the further training regulations with the support of the specialist society. The hospitals with the training supervisors have to implement these contents for the trainees in continuing education and confirm the acquisition of competence for the individual tasks. Surveys of young surgeons in recent years have shown that many participants do not receive structured continuing education, so that there is general dissatisfaction. Therefore, the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV) is required to provide assistance to its

Protocol for a Randomized, Crossover Trial to Decrease Time in Hypoglycemia by Combined Intervention of the Usage of Intermittent-Scanning Continuous Glucose Monitoring Device and the Structured Education Regarding its Usage: Effect of Intermittent-Scanning Continuous Glucose Monitoring to Glycemic Control Including Hypoglycemia and Quality of Life of Patients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus Study (ISCHIA Study).

OBJECTIVE: Intermittent-scanning continuous glucose monitoring (isCGM) is widely used in type 1 diabetes (T1D) patients; however, the education required to prevent hypoglycemia by using isCGM is not established. This study examines the combined effect of isCGM device usage and the education to reduce the time in hypoglycemia in comparison to conventional self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG). METHODS: The Effect of Intermittent-Scanning Continuous Glucose Monitoring to Glycemic Control Including Hypoglycemia and Quality of Life of Patients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus Study (ISCHIA Study),

Professional development preferences and needs of healthcare providers working with older adults on exercise and nutrition: results of key informant interviews.

Most older adults want to age in place, and evidence-based health behaviours that support aging in place include healthy diets and physical activity. Healthcare professionals need training in the science and practice of nutrition and physical activity to support their older adult clients to age in place. In this study we investigated knowledge gaps among healthcare professionals and the organizations that employ them regarding exercise and nutrition for older adults. We also aimed to identify their perceptions of effective and ineffective continuing education approaches, how they choose contin

Intermittently scanned continuous glucose monitoring provides no benefit over structured self-monitoring of blood glucose in type 2 diabetes not on prandial insulin, in the context of diabetes self-management education: GLucose monitoring programme SingaporE (GLiMPSE).

OBJECTIVE: We evaluated the impact of intermittently scanned continuous glucose monitoring(is-CGM)over self-monitoring of blood glucose(SMBG) in the context of diabetes self-management education (DSME) in sub-optimally controlled type 2 diabetes(T2D) in a multi-ethnicsetting. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHOD: Randomized-controlled, open-label trial (NCT04564911), of T2D with HbA1c ≥ 7.5-≤10 %, on oral agents with/without basal insulin was carried out. Intervention arm received 6 weeks(w) continuous is-CGM, followed by one is-CGM/month till 24w. Control arm was advised to perform 4 SMBG/day. Educati

The COPe concept for the training of communication in highly emotional situations.

Members of transplant teams are oft confronted with highly emotional situations. Inability to handle these situations leads to burn-out and impairs the performance of the team. We introduce and discuss first experiences with a training program--COPe--specifically concentrating on establishing and maintaining communication in such situations.

Fetal physiology cardiotocography training, a regional evaluation.

INTRODUCTION: Cardiotocography (CTG) has its limits in detecting fetal acidosis and intrapartum asphyxia. Our aim was to evaluate a CTG training programme based on fetal physiology in the Mediterranean perinatal network. METHODS: Professionals from 41 maternity units of the Mediterranean network were invited to participate in a CTG masterclass based on fetal physiology in March 2019 and October 2019. They were asked to react to three practical cases by a physiological approach before the training course (T0), one month after (T1) and six to seven months after (T2). The mean scores were compar

Knowledge level of diagnostic procedures and risk factors for oral cancer among oral healthcare providers in Germany.

BACKGROUND: Oral cancer is an underestimated and growing public health problem. The majority of cases are diagnosed at a late stage, even though oral cancer can be detected early by routine visual and tactile examination. Dental healthcare providers thus play a vital role in its early detection. This study assessed dental healthcare providers' knowledge of diagnostic procedures and risk factors for oral cancer. METHODS: A cross-sectional, observational study was conducted using a validated survey of 38 items focusing on knowledge of diagnostic procedures and risk factors, and questions on con

The perceived importance of paramedic skills and the emphasis they receive during EMS education programs.

OBJECTIVE: The National Standard Curriculum for paramedics is currently being revised. There is little scientific evidence of what does and what does not work in prehospital care, and of whether the National Standard Curriculum prepares paramedics for the field. To provide some basis for the current revisions to the National Standard Curriculum, the authors determined which prehospital skills are perceived by paramedics to be the most important, and whether the emphasis placed on those skills during initial and continuing education programs corresponds with the perceived importance. METHODS:

Spondylolysis: a review and treatment approach.

Low back pain, specifically "spondylo" conditions, has traditionally been misunderstood and often times ill-treated. A thorough understanding of the function of pars interarticularis and its relationship to the entire vertebral unit and low back health are essential for successful treatment and rehabilitation outcomes. Lifestyle awareness and controlled progression through the inflammation, stabilization, strength, and functional rehabilitation phases provide primary guidance for patients. In addition, a broad spectrum of pharmacological, psychological, therapeutic modality, and newer surgical
