OBJECTIVE: Deficiency in patient education has been correlated with increased disease-related morbidity and decreased access to care. However, the associations between educational level, preoperative disease severity, and postoperative outcomes in patients with lumbar spondylolisthesis have yet to be explored.
METHODS: The spondylolisthesis dataset of the Quality Outcomes Database (QOD)-a cohort with prospectively collected data by the SpineCORe study team of the 12 highest enrolling sites with an 81% follow-up at 5 years -was utilized and stratified for educational level. Patients were class

Online mental health services (MH) are playing a pivotal role by increasing MH literacy, enabling accessibility, and reducing logistical barriers, especially for women from developing nations like Bangladesh. However, the psychological burden and service needs of women using online MH platforms remain understudied despite their heightened vulnerability. Therefore, this study investigated the prevalence and determinants of anxiety and depression among women who received counseling from the online MH service platform,Women Support Initiative Forum (WSIF)through a cross-sectional study conducted

In this paper we describe the analysis, planning, design, development, implementation and evaluation of a new online Graduate Certificate in Genomic Counselling and Variant Interpretation (GCGCVI) at The University of British Columbia (UBC). Genetic counselling is now a prerequisite for diagnostic genomic testing in many countries, demanding that genetic counselling practitioners have up-to-the-moment genomic counselling skills and knowledge. Current practitioners reported a desire for more training in this rapidly developing field: our international survey revealed substantial interest in onl

In 2014, the European undergraduate curriculum in Geriatric Medicine was published to cover the minimum requirements that a medical student should achieve by the end of medical school. In 2019, the European postgraduate curriculum in Geriatric Medicine outlined the minimum recommended training requirements to become a geriatrician at specialist level in the EU. The postgraduate dimension of Geriatric Medicine education is a highly relevant topic for all, since most physicians-independently of their specialty-are inevitably involved in the care of older patients, but for most physicians, geriat

The introduction of the CanMEDS method to qualify training and ongoing education for healthcare providers in terms of competencies has provided a clear framework for medical schools' curricula. Different roles are outlined, and one of these is health advocacy. Physicians are accountable to society to use their knowledge and expertise to improve health. Even before the introduction of CanMEDS, physicians took responsibility for improving health by tackling issues in society that negatively affected the health of many; one obvious example is the provision of clean water and sewage systems to pre

Selection procedures for medical specialty training positions shape the future quality and composition of the specialist workforce. Yet selection often relies on opaque, bias-prone tools such as motivation and reference letters, CVs and unstructured interviews. These methods are hard to compare, may promote similarity-based decisions, and disadvantage applicants with limited access to the "hidden curriculum". We argue that current practice is increasingly unjustifiable and propose a structured, evidence-informed alternative, aligned with principles of fairness, transparency and predictive vali

Simulation-based Mastery Learning (SBML) offers a structured, evidence-based approach to endoscopy education, grounded in the science of expertise and deliberate practice. Unlike traditional apprenticeship models, SBML ensures that all trainees achieve predefined competency benchmarks through iterative simulation, expert feedback, and rigorous assessment. It improves technical skill acquisition, accelerates learning, and enhances patient safety. The approach has been widely adopted, including in resource-limited settings, via hybrid and remote models. This review explores SBML's theoretic foun

Changes in the certification program of the ABR were first described in some detail in 2008 and have since undergone refinements. Controversies surrounding these changes have included the relevance of test questions, costs, effects of altering the examination scheduling, residency program curriculum changes, and issues related to preparing for the examinations. However, the role of psychometric testing in radiology itself, as the technical foundation for the new ABR Core and Certification Examinations, has undergone less scrutiny. This article examines the validity and consequences of the ABR

Education is a core activity of academic departments but pressure from universities to maximize research income and research productivity, and from hospitals to deliver a more efficient clinical service, has pushed the importance of education into third place in many departments. Academic departments of anaesthesia can make significant contributions to undergraduate teaching. Students appreciate the one-to-one teaching which they receive from anaesthetists and the range of practical skills which they can learn. The main teaching burden of an academic department of anaesthesia relates to educat
