Background Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) avulsion fractures often necessitate surgical intervention, with various fixation techniques available. Among these, the arthroscopic suture pull-out technique has gained attention as a promising approach. However, the influence of surgical timing on patient outcomes remains insufficiently studied. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of the arthroscopic suture pull-out technique for ACL tibial avulsion fractures and assess how the timing of surgical intervention affects functional outcomes. Methodology This study was conducted at our hospital fr

Adolescent athletic injuries are special in that they differ from those of the skeletally mature athlete in several respects. The physis is weaker than the ligaments, so that the typical mechanism of injury, which might be expected to result in a syndesmosis sprain of the ankle in adults with subsequent tearing of the ligaments, frequently causes an epiphyseal avulsion in children. The potential for leg length discrepancy and growth aberrations exists only if a significant amount of growth remains in the unfused epiphysis. The juvenile Tillaux fracture of the anterolateral distal tibial epiphy

Tibial tubercle fractures are rare injuries most commonly seen in the pediatric population; more specifically the adolescent male population towards the end of peak longitudinal growth. Typically, tibial tubercle fractures are fixed with cannulated screws. However, there is a subsection of patients with tibial tubercle avulsion fractures in which the fracture fragment is small and attempts at screw fixation may lead to screw cut-out and fragment damage. To address this, we describe a technique for small or thin tibial tubercle fractures using a tensionable knotless anchor construct with 2-4 in

This paper describes an arthroscopic technique for managing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tibial avulsion fractures. The procedure combines a 3-tunnel anchoring construct with cortical button fixation in a crossed-loop configuration. The method aims to enhance 3-dimensional stability and provides improved fixation strength compared with conventional 2-tunnel approaches. The technique employs standard anterolateral/anteromedial portals with minimal access incisions (<5 mm), which feature 3 precisely placed 2.5 mm bone tunnels (2 anterior and 1 posterior to the anterior cruciate ligament foot

INTRODUCTION: Anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS) avulsion fractures commonly occur in adolescent patients during sports activities. To systematically evaluate fracture severity and guide management, an adaptation of the Hetsroni classification system was used to categorize fractures on the basis of their displacement relative to the acetabular rim. Traditional open reduction and internal fixation reported satisfactory consolidation rates but complications such as lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN) neuropathies, heterotopic ossifications (HO), and subspine impingement. The objectives of t

OBJECTIVE: Intraoperative femoral condylar avulsion fractures during total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are rare but potentially lead to joint instability and poor outcomes if not properly managed. However, the necessity of using condylar-constrained prostheses in these cases remains controversial. This retrospective study examines the incidence, management approaches, and radiological outcomes of these fractures.
METHODS: A total of 47 patients (11 males, 36 females; mean age 67.1 ± 7.0 years) with femoral condylar avulsion fractures were identified from 4290 TKAs performed between January 2008 a

OBJECTIVE: Tibial tubercle avulsion fractures (TTAFs) represent 0.4% to 2.7% of pediatric physeal injuries. These injuries are thought to confer a risk of acute compartment syndrome (ACS), and these patients are often admitted for compartment monitoring and, in many cases, undergo prophylactic fasciotomy. This study sought to review our institution's experience with TTAF and associated compartment syndrome in pediatric patients.
METHODS: All patients aged 8 to 18 years with TTAF at our institution from January 1, 2017 to January 1, 2023 were retrospectively reviewed. Patient demographics, inj

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Fractures in the proximal tibial tuberosity are rare injuries. Even more uncommon are bilateral simultaneous fractures. Due to the few cases reported in the literature, we aimed to present a case which may contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of bilateral simultaneous tibial tubercle fractures.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 13-year-old Hispanic male presented to the emergency department after experiencing sudden knee buckling while running after standing up from the catcher's position (squatted) during a baseball game, causing him to collapse to the ground. Plain radi

Arthroscopic reduction and fixation of tibial eminence avulsion fractures has excellent clinical results and adequately restores anterior cruciate ligament function with a low rate of complications. Clinical outcomes are preserved at an average of 8 years, and the incidence of osteoarthritis is low at midterm follow up. These injuries may represent the best-case scenarios of anterior cruciate ligament injury because they represent lower energy injuries without significant associated meniscal or chondral pathologies. These findings may give us additional clues about which patients are the best

Background: The optimal management of pediatric thumb ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) avulsion fractures remains poorly defined. The purpose of this study was to elucidate patient outcomes based on initial management and fracture characteristics. Methods: A retrospective study of all patients younger than 18 years of age presenting with a thumb UCL avulsion fracture was performed. Patients were grouped by their initial management. The primary outcome of the study was time to return to full activity. Fractures were characterized by articular surface involvement, displacement, and rotation. Resu

PURPOSE: Displaced tibial posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) avulsion fractures require surgical fixation in order to provide an adequate bone healing and to avoid a loss of posterior stability. The purpose of this study was to compare the biomechanical properties of a recently established modified suture bridge technique to a well-established transtibial pullout technique. It was hypothesized that the suture bridge technique shows lower elongation and higher load to failure force compared to a transtibial pullout fixation.
METHODS: Twelve fresh-frozen human cadaveric knees were biomechanicall

UNLABELLED: While it is well known that ankle sprains are one of the most common injuries in the United States, predictive factors regarding failure of conservative treatment are not well known. There are many biomechanical and epidemiological factors that play a role in recurrence and failure of conservative treatment, but most cases are able to be treated with immobilization and/or rest, ice, elevation, physical therapy, and bracing. We propose that one important risk factor is often overlooked simply due to the fact that a vast majority of these cases resolve without the need for surgery. A

PURPOSE: The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) presents commonly with avulsion fractures of its tibial attachment. An avulsion fracture of the PCL, if not surgically fixed, may lead to secondary changes in the knee joint. Various fixation techniques have been explored with use of lag screws, steel wires, absorbable screws, suture anchors and straddle nails. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and functional outcome of open reduction and internal fixation of tibial avulsion injuries of the PCL using cannulated cancellous screws.

This is a case report of a unique presentation of a mild form of osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) (type IA) in a 9-year-old African-American boy who presented with simultaneous bilateral tibial tubercle avulsion fractures. The boy presented to the authors' emergency room complaining of acute bilateral knee pain. He could not perform a straight leg raise. Other than his orthopaedic examination, significant findings included blue sclera and irregular teeth. Radiographs and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) confirmed bilateral tibia tubercle avulsion fractures. The patient underwent open reduction and

Four patients with avulsion fractures of the intercondylar eminence were treated osteosynthetically by means of trans-epiphysial ridged crossed Kirschner wires at the emergency surgical clinic of the Solingen City Hospital in the period May 1984 to August 1985. In the case of two patients, who could be follow-up examinated, we found excellent results. The described procedure has proven to be technically simple and lends itself among other things to the secure feastening of flat, predominantly cartilaginous bearing fragments.

BACKGROUND: Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) avulsion fractures are rare injuries that require surgical management to stabilise the knee and prevent further injuries. Since the first documented arthroscopic fixation in 2001, many variations of the technique have been reported. Yet there has been no large scale study evaluating the efficacy and complications of these techniques. The authors describe their novel technique for the arthroscopic fixation of PCL avulsion fractures using two suture loops with endobuttons, to create a tension band construct, allowing early range of motion exercises.
